Game of Thrones ended a year ago. It felt like it has been longer. I could have sworn it was two years.

Just finished Vikings. It's a solid show, but it's too bad it's not on HBO or something. Too many hot scandi girl sex scenes with no titties being shown

Reality Z, 10/10, So Reality Z is a short one season show on Netflix. The premise is a Zombie outbreak centered around the set of a Big Brother like studio in Brazil. It's more complicated than that but I don't want to spoil it. The show is nothing like The Walking Dead. This show is firing on all cylinders at all times. No one is safe. There is no plot armor for anyone.

So the show was originally released by Netflix in Portuguese due to it being a Brazilian show. It was so positively received though that they went back and redubbed the whole thing in American English and did a pretty decent job at it. You can almost forget it is even in Brazil.

My favorite character aside from the Brazilian women is the coked out riot cop. Truly my spirit person.

He looks exactly like my cop uncle too. That's too funny to me.

The ending song to Neon Genesis Evangelion came up in my recommendations. I listened to it without knowing what it was from and liked it. I watched the ending to the show and it is super trippy. Very glad I never got into that even though the model kits seem simple and easy.

Watch the video and despair.

What does the unicorn horn do?

I would be less bothered by the horn than the fact that the giant robot is holding a folding pocket knife

Wow, I completely overlooked that. It's KJ's spirit robot.

Didn't Megatron turn into a giant pistol? That had to be even more redundant.

I remember kids in the neighborhood would paint or remove the orange corks from their toy guns because they didn't want to look gay.

The caption on the photo from the website was too good. I should have included it

My parents wouldn't even allow water guns in our household when I was growing up.

My grandpa felt the same way about toy guns and water pistols, ken. WW2 vet, so in hindsight I understand. He did eventually give in on one of those backpack reservoir water cannons, which ironically resembled a flamethrower. Totally worth whatever chores I was doing for it at the time.

I also got assigned one of those school projects where you ask an elder relative about their experiences during the war. It was kind of a cruel assignment, considering that some preferred to not speak of it.

Always hated the orange tip when it came out. Then, that wasn't enough so they made the whole gun orange. Now you can buy AR-15s in any color of the rainbow.

https://www.pbs.org/show/college-behind-bars/

college behind bars, about a prisoner college education programme ran by Bard. executive produced by ken burns.

a bunch of long-term cons reading shakespeare and aeschylus and taking liberal arts. it's good shit.

Rand corp estimated that getting a prisoner a college education saves 5x as much money in the justice system in the long-run. the state spends as much in a year on keeping a prisoner behind bars as an entire harvard undergraduate education. per year.

some incredibly eloquent people, prisoners and prison staff/academics.

it's very interesting seeing how flipping them into a classroom environment, student roles, collaboration etc. completely resocializes them. people who would be gangbangers, violent and disruptive, etc, in the ordinary prison population, perhaps not even able to talk because of gang affiliations or beefs or whatever, then become super-respectful co-students and help each other with their work. it makes them far better at seeing the point in society and their stake/investment in it.

it's not all a happy picture, of course. but verrrrrry interesting.

I saw a documentary on this in the 1980s. I think it was called "Trading Places". It was a case study where they took someone off the streets and swapped him out with an investment banker trading on, of all things, frozen orange juice futures.

it covers a bit of the history of such programmes.

clinton clamped down on it on an attempt to appeal to the hardcore law and order types. i guess that was the same period when he flew down to florida to watch the state kill a retarded person. gotta appeal to the hot button issue voters!

cuomo apparently tried to roll it out through new york a decade or so ago too, but was forced to back down. americans really don’t like to see prisoners escape the vicious circle, apparently.

watch jay say here that prisoners don’t deserve free education after he got his free from the state too

Just because they are able to hold it together in a controlled and forced situation for awhile doesn't mean they are any better socialized than when they went to prison. We all know people who lost their shit and couldn't hold it together once they got out of high school.
