There is a lady on Etsy that I buy custom made MTG boxes from. The missing white part is my name. I actually bought 5 but I can't get the fifth right now for a picture. I ordered four more custom boxes from the lady which means hundreds of more dollars wasted on Magic the Gathering.

I bought a computer program to catalog my entire MTG collection. At less than 5% of the entire collection cataloged, the value is already almost $300. What an a absolutely embarrassing money sink.
I just ordered 6 more boxes for a total of $240. This is why I don't criticize girls buying hand bags or shoes. They buy shoes, I buy boxes to hold cardboard.

$40 for a box she bought for $4 and put some paint on?

it's decorative wood burning. i thought it was paint at first, as well.

My name and the symbols are burned on. The angel symbol on the white box is a custom design and the dog burn is from a picture.

She is probably making a decent amount of profit but her cost is more than $4. The box, paint, shipping cost, and her time are more than $4. It probably takes at least an hour to burn my name and images and just as much time to paint it. Besides I don't have the skills to do custom wood burning. And stocking up on random paint I will never use again is wasteful.

I am okay with the price. $40 for a custom designed piece of work that I will keep for the rest of my life is worth it. $40 is a few drinks at the local bar or a shitty video game I will play once and not like.

I was about to go off but remembered I spent over 1k on fitness equipment at the start of this pandemic. You go buy those boxes man.

£1k is a very reasonable investment in any scenario for that stuff. it's your health. i would easily spend £1k on a desk/chair set-up as well.

Vaguely. I wanted to do something like this for a while, but no definitive plans. After two weeks sitting at home I'd already added electricity to my kitchen island, cleaned the basement, cleaned the garage, potty trained my youngest,  and needed something to keep me busy. This did the trick.

Etsy is just the coolest market place of thing. I really like the concept of Patreon too. It's a shame if you think about it that in the more open days of the internet in the late 90's and early 2000's all that was really created as a bunch of massive internet companies that came to dominate various sectors of internet commerce. Meanwhile creative and artistic people needed to wait decades until sites were created where they can directly sell their goods and art. And still these sites like Patreon and Etsy only exist because Amazon Web Services host them and credit card companies process their payments.

Here is my collection of unsorted Magic the Gathering cards. I put a dollar as a scale of reference. Each box can hold several hundred Magic cards. The larger box below it is just as full with boxes.

I guess for artists to have a shot at direct sales they needed a few things to line up: the underlying tech needed to be affordable; they needed enough internet users comfortable with purchasing from unknown sellers; they needed reliable and fast door-to-door shipping to make the supply chain work.

Honestly I'd say this is about as early as it could have all come together.

So Mac has shared his favorite boxes, and now I think it's time I shared at least one of mine. When I travel I like to try and buy a box of some sort that in some way is local. I have Italian leather boxes with gold gilding, Guatemalan boxes with textile inlays, Azorean ceramics with beautiful hydrangea painted on it, etc. But my all time favorite box that I've collected is a yosegi 14-step puzzle box from Japan. I got the box from the craftsman who made it in a small workshop at the base of Mt. Fuji in Hakone. I literally made my wife take a 3 day detour just so I could be the one to hand the man who made it the cash.

It looks like this:

This is how they are made:

And yes, they legit play that music in the front of the shop.

i bought a clothes steamer.

i've sort of always wanted one, being too lazy to do laundry and iron all the time, but was put off by the initial outlay. this one has come out of my unused May beer budget. i have some long dry-clean-only trenchcoats that always routinely end up creased and crimpled after a week of commuting, and they are a pain in the arse to iron and clean. this looks like the ticket.

I bought a car battery today too, my battery is completely dead and my car hasn't been driven for months. I'm seriously concerned I'm going to have all sorts of mechanical issues when I start it up... fingers crossed

Don't u have a lambo too? I thought it was u or maybe some other rich British dude that had a few crazy cars. Was it toilet sex?

How do u like your Maserati? Fuck I want a supercar so bad but I doubt I could ever afford one. I've gotten to drive some pretty cool stuff before though. Going back to a normal car sucks so hard
