Have you forgotten the Chinese started frantically building hospitals and digging mass graves at breakneck speed? Granted, this was all with incomplete information at hand, though the aformentioned points did occur. A virus being what it is, acting too late is a far, far more dangerous problem than acting too early and too carefully.
No, I haven't forgotten. I clearly remember calling them death hospitals back when the first images were shown. I can't think of a better way to kill your populace than to have them all placed on cots spaced three feet apart. Whatever sickness they didn't already have was surely going to be transmitted rapidly across the tent hospital.

You really need to stop looking to China for any sort of intellectual leadership or cues.

I'm going to keep on posting this, and don't forget Trump was thoroughly warned early December.

Oh man, is this going to be your thing now? I understand that you don't have the ability to have many thoughts, but please, for the love of god, do not spend the next ten years posting that image. We finally got past you talking about Bush and Blair and Jews in every topic.

You are unable to think for yourself, all you do is parrot whatever you last heard.

I'll stop posting that image if you stop making things up which didn't happen.

Trump was warned endlessly, the White House was warned endlessly and in detail, both sat on their hands.
America's appalling response is not the fault of the medical community.

china isolated the sick from their families and communities. draconian measures, to be sure, and not to be imitated in the west if it can be avoided. but it worked. their numbers are down.

you’re bothered about people being isolated in hospitals but want sick people to be free to roam and wander about normal society? it’s just confusing. do you value life or not?

Nursing homes are a shame. Old people should be taken care of by their families and visiting aides. They shouldn't be put in situations where they have to make friends with strangers like 1st graders.

caring for someone with dementia or alzheimer’s is a full time job. and it is distressing to the loved ones. nobody wants to put a relative in a home.

Home healthcare workers would be a more expensive but better service providing alternative.

i don't understand people wearing masks that only cover the mouth? is this virus not spread as easily by breathing and exhaling thru your nose? are these people just straight up mouth breathers? i went to the beach yesterday in ventura again (beach itself was nice, people were actually practicing social distancing this time and no big crowds) but the stores do not require masks out there or even seem to be limiting the amount of ppl inside. i got some fish and chips at this little seafood place and it was crowded inside, with maybe half the people wearing masks. saw a cook in the back literally not wearing anything. i got some ice cream later in the night at this other place and once again it was crowded inside and all 3 employees were essentially just wearing this chin strap thing that like only partially covered the mouth and the nose was completely exposed.

this random old couple probably like 70+ yrs old even asked me to take a pic of them in front of a sign. both were close to me and this guy even shook my hand afterward. i felt weird doing that since im sure this dude is high risk but whatever he didn't even seem phased by anything

at least in LA county/the city stores make face masks mandatory to go inside and ppl seem to take thigns more seriously

ill keep u guys updated

A member of Vice President Mike Pence's staff has tested positive for the coronavirus, two sources familiar tell CNN.

Pence's Friday morning flight to Iowa was delayed on the tarmac of Joint Base Andrews for about an hour, and some people deplaned, according to White House pool reports.

The person who tested positive was not on the Iowa trip, but there was concern about other people on the plane having been in contact with the positive individual, a source familiar told CNN.
it's just a matter of time before the white house gets COVIDed

We are at 14% unemployment up until April. It is definitely higher now. Trump is leading America through a second Great Depression as was warned?

we’ve been talking about care home epidemics but have said nothing about the incarcerated.

america is the most carceral nation on the planet. what happens when your prison populations start fire storming with coronavirus?

President Donald Trump confirmed Friday that Vice President Mike Pence's press secretary, Katie Miller, tested positive for the coronavirus.

Miller is now the second White House staff member known to have tested positive for the coronavirus this week, after one of Trump's personal valets tested positive on Thursday.

I expect Trump, like Bolsonaro, will inexplicably escape the coronavirus dance and survive through all of this, of course praising his own 'strong physical constitution' throughout.

Trump: "I feel about vaccines like I feel about tests. This is going to go away without a vaccine, it's gonna go away, and we're not going to see it again, hopefully, after a period of time. You may have some flare-ups..."

Reading a transcript of Trump's idiosyncratic speech is enough to assure me that the world order is in the process of shifting. America, it's been real, but we're chilling with other people now. We had a good run. BTW, we're getting a wall. Hear Mexico's buying.

diplomats and mandarins have been saying this for ages. trump is a massive loss of credibility for america on the world stage. perfect ammunition for its enemies (china, russia, even without collusion; i mean he's an idiot and the face of 'democracy'), and damaged relations with many of its former allies.

Said the same about Bush. It's like there's a pattern...

no, i don't recall international relations being so fraught under bush at all. bush was not the laughing stock of europe.

did liberals and the centre-left/left-wing in europe decry bush? absolutely. there was a huge anti-war movement, after all. but establishment figures? diplomats? ambassadors? i think any misgivings would have been kept strictly within discretion/embassy cables, if it did exist.

Old Europe vs New Europe and the Iraq war were a pretty wild ride in diplomat land. But in comparison Trump is definitely even worse.

Bush oversaw a massive NATO expansion east. He got almost all the Eastern Europeans in the alliance in exchange for their sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan. That's why you had Polish Special Forces running around Afghanistan fighting indigenous people like they were a western European country.
