A lot of the world still uses World War 2 and earlier weapons just fine. When it comes to war machines they have gotten more deadly and and efficient at killing but we haven't gotten equally significant advances in protecting life. Sure, modern soldiers have plate carriers and ballistic helmets. But if you and 20 modern American soldiers were walking down the street and the ghost of Hitler caught you with a MG42 from a window, you are fucked.

The modern USAF would do better in Vietnam but only to a point. Massed anti-aircraft guns and artillery are still dangerous. Older surface to air missiles can still get lucky if used in used groups and because of pilot error. The modern USAF would have a disadvantage against the Vietnam era USAF due to modern aircraft costing more, being more complex, taking longer to produce, and harder to train for. You might actually lose effectiveness due to not being able to keep as many planes in the air.

This all points to an uncomfortable fact that many Americans would be dismayed to learn: American soldiers aren't dramatically tougher than many of the ground troops of other nations and even insurgent groups. We are just a lot better at killing from a distance than anyone else. And if you took away the planes and drones from the USMC, they wouldn't do as hot against ISIS and others as we would like to think. And if we ever fought the Russians and Chinese, the amount of casualties we would receive would be eye watering.

First off, welcome back ig.

Secondly, you would have to remind newbie or Ken what accounts you had and he would need to see how many post they had and add them together. Ken is good with remembering accounts for what it's worth.

i also recommend going to church this weekend. you have to make at least an effort with this catholic identity thing.

My grandma is oldschool Portuguese catholic, and her and all her fellow parishioners are doing mass by teleconference. At the very least turn the TV to the high 100's channel with a mass playing on a loop and put it on in the background. Or pray the rosary (the Catholics making sure they're getting into heaven are doing it twice a day, and I hear space is limited at the top).

I'm not really a practicing catholic. I go to church on the major holidays so my grandmother doesn't feel the need to pray for my soul on Christmas morning while she's there at 11am for the longest mass of the year on how ungrateful we all are. I am baptized, confirmed, and married in the Catholic church though, so I guess I'm hitting all the major sacraments on schedule.
