this is going to be the next cause of geopolitical strife and war, imo.That Cape Town didn’t run out of water in 2018 is now being framed as a story of resilience and adaptability. When tourists arrive at the airport, one of the first things they see is a big sign exhorting them to Save Water Like a Local. The suggestion is that we did something special and a bit mysterious. A lot of us did ‘change our relationship with water’. It’s difficult not to respond with alarm when you see a councillor describing the situation as ‘utterly catastrophic’, or when you hear about engineers crying in meetings. There were a few people who refused to be swayed from their conviction that this was one of those scams the government pulls from time to time in order to hike up water tariffs. Some of those people, among them a member of the provincial legislature, found a way to turn it into a conspiracy involving the ‘Jewish mafia’. That really did happen. Alongside the barking mad, there were those who were just a bit bored and irritated by the whole business. Wouldn’t it be fine? Weren’t we more or less OK?

Millennials lived through smaller versions of the Great Depression and now Spanish Flu. We need a smaller version of World War 1 and so we can unarguably be the second greatest generation.

they hate one another, are led by militant nationalists (or just the plain military with little pretense of government at all), they share very complex borders and disputed semi-autonomous zones, and both have nuclear weapons armed and pointing at one another.
north korea barks a lot and fires the odd occasional soviet scud into the japan sea, but pakistan has a real intelligence service and a real military.
modi is presiding over the world's biggest democracy and leading it down the path of virulent, outright nationalism. his party is a front for the RSS, a vast and paramilitary network of basically fascist-hindu political thinking. modi came up in this organization and it still sets the agenda. i suggest you do some reading into the RSS and its ideology. they are completely terrifying and lynchings/riots/murders are common in india at present. not to mention that they just shut off the internet in kashmir and declared its muslim inhabitants on their own basically overnight.
it's common to hear policemen running through the streets in certain indian cities shouting about the blood of muslims. it's not a pretty sight.

I just hope India and Pakistan stay rational enough to be informed by the concept of mutually assured destruction. I think whatever happens will be some proxy war fought by nuclear nations in some poor third party country. Like another Vietnam or similar.

india is the aggressor in many cases here. like most nationalist bully-boy regimes, circling around the leader and defining an enemy are effective. india seems ridden by political corruption and is a powder keg of social ills. so much easier to purge the muslims.
