There was this one Chinese-Mexican restaurant in my hometown once. Their Mexican food was pretty legit.

impressive chef that can offer a world menu and do them all justice.

when lockdown is lifted the first place i am going is a korean place near mine, or a szechuan street food place. a hot pot would be so good.

Chinese-Mexican near my old apartment in queens had the saddest tacos ever. Tortilla, melted american cheese slice, and a few bits of ground beef. Yuck even when drunk

i mentioned in the liquor thread that i had quesadillas in Taiwan one time. It was...interesting. Every component was there, but it wasn't mexican food

One of the best meals i've ever had was at an Italian restaurant in Thailand. They own a farm in the countryside and grow/raise most of their food. Try the rabbit risotto!

One thing I noticed regarding non-Mexicans making Mexican food is that they usually fuck up when it comes to how the beef taste or its texture. Mexicans I guess season it well and know what type of beef to buy.

That reminds me of my New Yorker dad who bought a "New York style hot dog" in Florida when he briefly lived down there. According to people in Florida, A New York style hot dog is a hot dog on a slice of wonder bread.

It's sad that the only pizza some people in this country will ever know is Dominos or Pizza Hut which is nothing like New York style Pizza.

I like Papa Johns's pizza better than either of those three. The crust is the best part. Papa John is in fact the realest of all Pizza chains. Papa John himself totally has New Jersey small pizza shop owner energy.

Its sad that most Americans will never know what an Italian pizza is like.

Looking at the context (referring to the word rather than using it as a specific invective), it's probably a dumb thing for a founder to have to resign over. I think his groaning about the NFL kneeling stuff was more annoying.

Maybe he can run for president. Apparently the US doesn't care how crass and horrible someone is.

There are plenty of awful pizzas here in Italy too. There is a large consensus that if you want to eat the real good pizza you have to go to Naples, although there are some very interesting regional variants.

Btw, any US pizza is considered inedible here.

I only had pizza twice and I was only in Florence but that's a bit silly. The bar for food here is a lot less I can buy a frozen pizza for 2 bucks but I can also get something close to Italian for 20-25.

One pizza I had wasn't much different than something you could get here. The other I've never had an style like it and was among the best pizza I've had. Other favorite pizzas include the local college pizza place and a vineyard in New York state owned by some Italian hippie.

i think the difference is the simplicity and quality of the ingredients.

the 'gourmet' or italian pizzas over here are typically done in some fancy wood-fired oven, spend a lot of time on the right (sour)dough base, use extremely good base ingredients, and use them minimally, etc. not just throwing 4/5 toppings on one pizza or whatever. super fresh ingredients and some basil on top or whatever. it's a light meal that you can enjoy on a sunny terrace, not a huge ordeal that you force down after your 5th pint at the end of a night out.

i never get takeaway pizza, i think maybe i ate it too much as a student. it just feels kinda boring.

I could be the 6th Ninja Turtle eating pizza for breakfast. All types meet my interest. Italian pizza in Italy was cool for a while, but it's such a refined thing there that I found the variety sort of lacking. All of the menus were identical, and I'm too much of a cretin to understand the fine difference between a mozzarella left to sit for 30min versus 45min.
