My new computer keeps flashing rainbow (the gay color pattern). And it also makes funny noises.

How do I make it stick with just one color like a normal computer? How do I put a stop to this before it decides to transition to become a Playstation?

My "pretty good" may be skewed by how (utterly) bad stock coolers used to be, but to be fair to that scale something like a Noctua solution would be way above in "excellent" for air coolers.

What you will find is those noises come from varying voltage supply. It does seem to fluctuate wildly so it does indeed sound like moaning. Check your PSU.

to get rid of the lightshow, AMD will either have a motherboard firmware program to control them, or you can do the right thing and go for a better air-cooling solution. a stock heatsink will produce much more noise (in terms of fan noise) than a high-end cooler that has to do a lot less 'work' for better results.

Intel makes bad coolers. AMD has always made good stock coolers. If you never used AMD, you wouldn't know that.

I've had Athlon/Athlon 64. The coolers were good enough for stuff like Delta Force and Battlefield 1942, and they've only gotten better.

I still I don't think they're "far from pretty good" like uzique countered. But my "pretty good" is not the top of my tier list in positive judgment.

AFAIK marketing. Because it looks like this and not anything like the billion black or clear fans out there up to their armpits in RGB lighting, it's instantly recognizable. Reputable brand, means business. Makes top tier recommended in parts articles year after year.

They do have other colors these days for people who just can't stand this one. Personally, computer Christmas lights look neat for a bit, but then I turn them off because of the distraction.

noctua are the industry-standard. austrian company who have been making fans and coolers for server farms and home PCs for decades. their performance is almost unrivalled in the market. they cost about 2-3x as much as regular fans, so you definitely have to pay for it.

they do a black and industrial range now as well. but yeah, their 'trademark' for ages was the sort of ... errm, brown. you either love it or you hate it, i guess.

i have a black noctua in my current machine. everything is blacked out. no lame RGB with the AMD cooler.

There's probably a time and a place for an LED light show shining out the back of your PC like a martian spacecraft crash landed in a termite-ridden barn, but it's probably not while I'm trying to type an email or play a video game. Or doing anything that involves having to look at stuff on a monitor that isn't related to tweaking LED settings.
