Fuckers. I was a kid and I didn't like them either.

She said students had told her she'd die if she contracted the disease — but because they were "immune" they were not going to catch it.

"We're dealing with a situation where kids are literally sneezing on [teachers] or coughing on them because they have no sense of personal hygiene or personal space," she said.

"We've got teachers at school who are quite old. They're all 60 years (of age)-plus and these people have got underlying health issues as well."

She said physical distancing at large public schools was impossible, as 30 students were crammed in to classrooms with inadequate sanitation supplies.

"We've got kids who are coming to school every day with colds, coughs, flu symptoms who are feeling sick, they're dizzy, they're nauseous, they have headaches," she said.

A Report From the Coronavirus Frontline: “They Are Essentially Drowning in Their Own Blood.” 3/21/2020
https://www.motherjones.com/politics/20 … oronavirus

“Holy shit, I do not want to catch this and I don’t want anyone I know to catch this.”

[…]

I spoke to a respiratory therapist there, whose job is to ensure that patients are breathing well. He works in a medium-sized city hospital’s intensive care unit. (We are withholding his name and employer, as he fears retaliation.) Before the virus came to New Orleans, his days were pretty relaxed, nebulizing patients with asthma, adjusting oxygen tubes that run through the nose or, in the most severe cases, setting up and managing ventilators. His patients were usually older, with chronic health conditions and bad lungs.

Since last week, he’s been running ventilators for the sickest COVID-19 patients. Many are relatively young, in their 40s and 50s, and have minimal, if any, preexisting conditions in their charts. He is overwhelmed, stunned by the manifestation of the infection, both its speed and intensity. The ICU where he works has essentially become a coronavirus unit. He estimates that his hospital has admitted dozens of confirmed or presumptive coronavirus patients. About a third have ended up on ventilators.

His hospital had not prepared for this volume before the virus first appeared. One physician had tried to raise alarms, asking about negative pressure rooms and ventilators. Most staff concluded that he was overreacting. “They thought the media was overhyping it,” the respiratory therapist told me. “In retrospect, he was right to be concerned.”

He spoke to me by phone on Thursday about why, exactly, he has been so alarmed. His account has been condensed and edited for clarity.

[…] cont'd here
(But yes, because I sometimes use hand sanitizer while on the road, at an office, or out in the field, I must be delighted at and feel smugly vindicated about current pandemic horrors. Once again, real sharp insight there, Jay. /s)

Anecdote from social media:

My sister is one of those younger adults that thinks all this covid19 stuff is nothing,  she can't understand why my mum and her partner are self isolating, shes super mad at my mother for refusing to baby sit her 4yr old who goes to daycare where she could catch something, shes now going off at me calling me crazy for "believing" all the bullshit she refuses to believe anyone under 40 is at risk even though our parents are in their late 50s , so shes perfectly fine with killing our mother ... end rant

Influencer reportedly hospitalized with coronavirus after licking toilet 3/25

Including a bit with some chick licking an airplane toilet seat.

The social media influencer has previously appeared on the Dr. Phil show, where he drew criticism for boasting about how he’d licked tubs of ice cream before putting them back in store freezers, and claimed he made “lots of money” from his online following. […]

New Jersey man charged after coughing on Wegmans worker, saying he has coronavirus 3/24
https://nypost.com/2020/03/24/new-jerse … oronavirus

https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/george-falcone-1.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=618&h=410&crop=1

A New Jersey man was busted on Tuesday after coughing on a Wegmans employee and telling her he had the coronavirus, authorities said.

The staffer at the Manalapan grocery store worried that George Falcone was standing too close to her and an open display of food Sunday at around 6:30 p.m. — and asked him to take a step back, state Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said in a news release.

Instead, the 50-year-old creep allegedly came closer and “purposely” sprayed her with his germs, Grewal said.

“He allegedly laughed and said he was infected with the coronavirus.”

He then told two other employees that they were lucky to have jobs, Grewal said. […]

Navy veteran died alone from coronavirus as family was quarantined 3/25
https://nypost.com/2020/03/25/navy-vete … uarantined

A 66-year-old Navy veteran from Milwaukee died “alone” of the coronavirus — as his quarantined family was unable to see him, according to new reports.

Lawrence Riley — who served during the Vietnam War and was a retired firefighter who survived two strokes — appeared able to beat anything, his family told ABC News.

But he died Thursday, two days after he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

“The way he handled pain, he was a tough guy,” his son, Elvaughn Riley, 28, told the outlet. “For this to take him out, it was a shock.”

Homeless man treated for coronavirus released back on the streets 3/24
https://nypost.com/2020/03/24/homeless- … he-streets

A homeless man in Texas who tested positive for the coronavirus is back on the streets after being treated at a local hospital for the infection, according to a report.

The unidentified man was diagnosed with COVID-19 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center last week, KHOU 11 reported.

“St. Joe’s had him in the ICU for several days and now he’s been released and unfortunately, they released him to the streets,” Tommy Thompson, CEO of the nonprofit Open Door Mission in East Houston, told the outlet.

Local homeless advocates were aware of the man and attempted to find him a place to stay, but he was instead released with nowhere to go, the outlet reported.

Now he could be putting countless others at risk, Thompson said.
I thought the coronavirus was only a threat to weak blue states.

In one day, the US will have more cases than China had.
Three days, New York State will have more cases than China had.

But yeah, lets try wait and see, should be over by Easter.

excerpt:

This individual just flew on a plane from one of the hottest Covid areas in the country to my town, reporting that he had been feeling slightly ill for the last 10 days with cough, but apparently "didn't think my illness was that bad".

Axial CT through mid chest demonstrating mutiple areas of primarily groundglass consolidation. The imaging on this appears worse than the first case I showed on this website, but doesn't look like ARDS at this point. Please note that this is a presumptive Covid-19 case at this point (came through a few hours ago), and is not confirmed. However, the fact that this individual willingly went through 2 airports and got on a plane right now absolutely infuriates me.

Two members of the tour tested positive to COVID-19 on Friday night with the remaining eight cases being confirmed on Saturday.

It is understood the group will be monitored and possibly transported to Royal Adelaide Hospital in the next few days.

'It's important that we keep that group together, because whilst there are some people whose tests are pending and some whose are negative, obviously the risk of spread within that group is quite high,' SA Health's Dr Nicola Spurrier said.
An American tour group in the Barossa Valley was quarantined after most of them tested positive for COVID-19. But now it turns out two of them fled the state while awaiting results.
Nice work guys, almost certainly infected, instructed to go into isolation but chose to flee and travel halfway around the world.
Should be prosecuted.

A CNN headline this morning that is going to get old: "US sees its worst one-day spike in reported coronavirus deaths"

There are now more than 65,000 cases of coronavirus across the US, and fatalities have reached 938. The numbers spiked Wednesday -- the deadliest day for reporting of US cases of coronavirus -- with 223 deaths reported that day alone. Just four days prior, the death toll stood at 326 people.

It feels like the more US health officials emphasize the severity of our circumstances and the extra strain carelessness is putting on the system, the more people will lick toilet seats for fake internet points. It's an ongoing frustration.

A pandemic-preparedness office that was part of the National Security Council was dissolved in 2018. On January 28, Luciana Borio, who was part of that team, urged the government to “act now to prevent an American epidemic,” and specifically to work with the private sector to develop fast, easy diagnostic tests. But with the office shuttered, those warnings were published in The Wall Street Journal, rather than spoken into the president’s ear. Instead of springing into action, America sat idle.

Derek Thompson: America is acting like a failed state

Rudderless, blindsided, lethargic, and uncoordinated, America has mishandled the COVID-19 crisis to a substantially worse degree than what every health expert I’ve spoken with had feared. “Much worse,” said Ron Klain, who coordinated the U.S. response to the West African Ebola outbreak in 2014. “Beyond any expectations we had,” said Lauren Sauer, who works on disaster preparedness at Johns Hopkins Medicine. “As an American, I’m horrified,” said Seth Berkley, who heads Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. “The U.S. may end up with the worst outbreak in the industrialized world.”

You know what is really going to be frustrating? Right wingers and Trump voters aren't going to be bothered by any of this unless someone in their family dies. And even then they will probably blame liberals. They are going to celebrate that NYC is going to get blasted by this virus. They hate NYC so they will be happy to see it suffer.

It is strange how viruses are even a thing. How does something that doesn't even have the ability to reproduce on its own even come into existence? I feel like creationist could make an argument based off of viruses if they spent a little time researching them instead of eating peanut butter.

don't forget the liberals who shuttered their local state hospitals and starved them of funding so that they could *checks notes* enrich their pensions.

47 year old man reports a fever, self-isolates at home because he assumes the hospitals will be full of the seriously sick. 2 days later, he suddenly dies.

how many 21-year-old young women have to die?  how many people in their mid-20s have to send video streams from intensive care beds saying how terrible and seriously ill they are? how many healthy middle-aged people with no pre-existing conditions have to die in 48 hours? are people going to start looking at the numbers in america and taking it seriously, or what?

worldwide mortality rate currently at 4.5%. watch trump keep saying it'll only kill 1% of americans. it varies wildly according to health and demographics. americans are not exactly the healthiest bunch.
