He is old, and missing parts of a lung. High risk. Apparently just before he got the diagnosis he was in the Senate gym and having lunch with other senators.

A theme developing is the derpers saying "Pfft, global warming is trivial compared to this pandemic, we don't have to worry about it any more"

Because obviously its just gone away. Wait until people are being physically displaced, can't farm etc.

Rand Paul is such a piece of shit. If he was tested and knew he could be infected, he should have been in self quarantine. It's funny his selfish libertarianism might get his party members sick.

Mr Paul was among eight Senate Republicans who voted against a bill that provided more than $US100 billion ($173 billion) to boost testing for the coronavirus and guarantee paid sick leave for millions of workers.

He was also the only Republican senator to oppose an earlier bill authorising $US8.3 billion ($14.4 billion) for the initial response to the pandemic.

The Sunday Times reported that those present at the private engagement claimed Mr Cummings had outlined the Government strategy as: ‘Herd immunity, protect the economy and if that means some pensioners die, too bad.’

Interesting spin from National Review
But Prof Ricciardi added that Italy’s death rate may also appear high because of how doctors record fatalities.

“The way in which we code deaths in our country is very generous in the sense that all the people who die in hospitals with the coronavirus are deemed to be dying of the coronavirus.

“On re-evaluation by the National Institute of Health, only 12 per cent of death certificates have shown a direct causality from coronavirus, while 88 per cent of patients who have died have at least one pre-morbidity – many had two or three,” he says.
So all of the people who died were going to die anyway and/or they didn't actually die from COVID-19 but whatever they already had that the virus made worse.

Clearly not a crisis.

Isn't it? You always bring up "tranny workshop" like it's supposed to upset me even though I've mentioned multiple times that it isn't a mechanic business.

Not closed, not giving anybody the boot. We provide essential services for businesses and properties that would be considered essential under more stringent measures. Hospitals included. I don't think anybody should be fooling themselves about the impact this is having on the economy, though.

Just a friendly reminder that you can thank God for things without sacrificing the family dog as burnt offerings.

My sisters are nurses. The thing isn't like a cold or flu. It's a lung infection. Sneezing and runny noses aren't symptoms.

lol i posted this exact thing 2 posts before you. i got it as breaking news from SJW twitter. derp derp.

he got tested almost immediately as soon as he suspected something. then he went home.

god bless america. if a senator has the slightest worry, or a basketball team (testing the jazz players' entire staff used 60% of a state's total test kits, lmao), you better believe they can get tested immediately. if you're a sick person in a hospital, finding a test kit is like panning for gold.

Ohio is going stay at home except essential stuff at midnight tonight. Apparently my company makes enough healthcare and food stuff we're considered essential. They're writing a letter with the help of CDC saying as much for employees to carry but if they don't get one by the time they leave tonight people have said aren't coming in tomorrow.

One person went home Thursday with covid symptoms and hasn't gotten a test yet. He is now in a company ordered quarantine along with 3 he interacted with. Temperature guns have been ordered and anyone with >100.4F will be sent home.

you're misunderstanding this.

the way deaths are formally recorded differs from country to country in terms of cause/sequelae. so someone could be put down as dying of 'heart failure' or 'myocarditis' on paper, but the inflammation of the heart muscle was ... caused by an immune response to the coronavirus.

similarly, someone could be logged as dying of pneumonia or 'acute respiratory distress syndrome'. well, pneumonia is just a second-stage and ARDS is just a final phase of coronavirus. you die of pneumonia but it was brought on by coronavirus.

you get similar things happen with people involved in accidents. they are totally destroyed by some form of trauma but then a chest or urine infection that leads to sepsis finishes them off in hospital 3 weeks later. what did they die of? the govt health statistics will show that x people that year died of sepsis.

over here in fortress socialist europe, all the companies and private sector take their cue from the government/public health bodies. they advise, the businesses follow.

in america it seems that every state, every city municipality, and every business are being left to figure it out for themselves.

in a pandemic situation i think this is very, very bad. but hey, you're free from fascist autocrats and despotic kings!

Heard stories that plenty of businesses are claiming essential even if its only 2 people working on a project to design a water line in a city. Plus Gamestop claimed it was essential until media outcry.

UK is in police enforced lockdown. never known anything like it. last time we had these measures in place there were luftwaffe bombers overhead looking for lights far below.

it can only mean that the modelling and data from places like italy are predicting thousands, if not tens of thousands, dead by the end of april.

Looking that way, best of luck. Its surreal how an infection can putter along at a low level before it explodes, but then we've had three months warning.
quarantining an entire country and cancelling all flights is a great act of economic self-harm; epidemiologically speaking in these circumstances, it hasn't done anything. italy had the strictest measures on china and yet quickly developed the biggest breakout in all of europe. so those were clearly great tactics dilderp. you should tell the public health chiefs what they're doing wrong.

this whole discussion is meaningless, anyway, as the australia–china comments were made at a very different stage. every few days the situation has changed and become more complex. complaining about the 'racist' stuff at this point is so much blah blah blah
Is this still your view? Might have been better to risk the economic self-harm and accusations of racism eh?
As soon as an epidemic was found in china unnecessary travel should have been cut right back, we still have morons floating around on cruise ships, trekking in peru and partying in bali.

Maybe people will look back at the dumb fucks eating bats and descaling pangolins in china, cultists in korea, catholics in italy and hasidim in new york, morons travelling the world for no real reason and conclude that stupidity is the root cause which has doomed us all.

We had a choice early on in the UK’s trajectory to go down the South Korean path of mass testing, isolating carriers of the virus (50% of whom are asymptomatic), tracing all contacts to ensure they isolate as well, and at the same time taking soft measures to delay the spread. Instead, we watched and waited, and whether it was academic navel-gazing, political infighting, a sense of British exceptionalism, or a deliberate choice to minimise economic disruption over saving lives, we have ended up in a position where we are now closer to the Italy scenario than anticipated, and are faced with taking more and more drastic measures.

Police can enforce it here but our governor begged businesses to do the right thing so the the police wouldn't need to do anything. Did threaten revoking business licenses.
He's done a surprisingly good job in response to coronavirus for a Republican who was part of the wave of stupid heartbeat abortion laws.
