note that he didn't opt for insurance under his old job, he had his wife's.

Choosing insurance plans is a fucking nightmare. But that's the way it's got to be! No point in trying to make it better, just work hard, hope you can continue to make enough to cover yourself/family, and hope no one has any tragic accidents along the way. Simple!

there’s a lot on the web about how biden is going to get marauded in the right-wing media and by trump on the podium because he is notably senile. he can’t string a coherent sentence together without lapsing into old-man bumbling. considering how much appearance and image matters, how is biden going to counter this obvious weakness?

trump is without question the worst orator and rhetorician ever seen in a ceremonial role, probably in the history of the human race, but, let’s face it, at least he owns that as the ‘anti’ politician. biden doesn’t have any excuse.

Biden may do better on a 1 v 1 debate than a free for all. And no matter what happens he will still get the popular vote. Americans vote for parties as much as parliamentary countries even if our system wasn't design that way.

She worked for a larger corporation at the time, with more generous benefits. Her company benefits are in decline. I moved to a large, private, family owned firm with very generous benefits (flat 8% 401k contribution, 75% premium coverage, fair bonus structure etc).

It was pretty simple to compare her PPO plan with whatever PPO plan my employers' offered.

You don't resent the fact that your boss controls your healthcare options? At least the cool thing about the ACA marketplace is the fact that you have choices and control.

Health insurance is largely a commodity. Cigna sucks in particular, but whatever. I can choose from PPO, HMO, HSA plans etc. Would I rather receive the full amount in pay and buy my own? Sure, I guess. The only difference is that my employer gets to write off their contribution to my coverage instead of me. My write off amount would increase instead of theirs.

My clarification was for macb - he was asking about comparison from your old job vs. new job, but you mentioned you had insurance through your wife as opposed as through your previous employer.

comparing PPO to PPO is fairly simple. Understanding the difference and what needs are met between HMO, PPO across multiple insurance carriers is a nightmare for a lot of people. I can only imagine it gets tougher when dependents are added.

My work covers 85%. I choose the highest coverage+lowest out of pocket max/copy I can. I recognize a lot of people don't have that luxury, and a lot of people don't factor in benefits when looking at total compensation packages. Sure, I can say it's their fault for not knowing, but I also understand it shouldn't be that difficult.

I mean, the same could be said with every financial product. Insurance isn't that difficult to understand once you get the basics. If you can do a household budget, you can understand insurance.

Wait a minute, are you saying the total cost of your medical insurance is $32,000, with you paying $8,000 and your company paying $24,000?

My experience of medical professionals is they're fucking greedy.

So while you're paying $8,000 per head people here pay $2,000, or nothing.

That capitalist free market delivers much lower costs eh.

We've done this all before, my total tax is lower than yours and my medical costs are also lower.

There was a neat little chart which I can't find, this will have to do.

Thats why you pay a fortune for medical insurance.

And what will yours rise to when you're old?
Mine will still be $2,000.

I remember lowing got into an argument with a Euro once and they compared taxes they pay. When you took state, county, and local taxes into consideration, their taxes are about the same.

So don't forget to look up your property taxes Dilbert.

Property taxes are about $2,000/yr, in a nice neighbourhood well away from jews.
I guess the Iranians and Iraqis keep them away.

it's amazing that americans justify the insane state of their healthcare and tax system by fooling themselves that they're getting a better deal.

meanwhile we all live in socialist dystopias where tax is automatically deducted from your monthly salary, you never have to think twice about using any state service, and you don't have to fucking run the arithmetic and add the state/sales tax to a bar of chocolate before paying for it at the register.

i guess this is what oppression looks like /shrug

There was a lady in a Sanders ad shilling for his medicare for all. She was fucked up by a bear. She said the only thing she was thinking about while the bear was trying to eat her was "I hope my insurance will cover this" hahaha. It's actually a comical thing to worry about while in the middle of a bear attack.

I never said I was getting a better deal. I said that what the Democrats were proposing did nothing to lower costs or improve quality. I know I'm overpaying.

how much did america spend in afghanistan in total? all that money to put a few more moon craters in their mountains and immiserate a few goat herders. oh and to build a giant ring road that nobody ever uses and that won't be maintained. you achieved net zilch there. OBL could have been caught for about the cost of a few phone spooks and buying his compound courier a happy meal as a bribe.

you could have bought every single citizen their own ambulance and told them to drive themselves to the shiny new hospital on the street corner for that sort of money.
