I thought you moved into the upper middle class (white) suburbs. What happened?

lmao jay complains about the cost of his affluent lifestyle and there are drug gangs in his local school.

we must have different definitions of affluent suburb.

That reminds me of someone in the south I saw bragging about their house costing $250,000. Like you would be lucky to find a home in my sad little town that cost less than $400,000.

I live in a neighborhood of professionals. They bus kids in from the adjoining district.

I am pretty sure you have before. I just know that there are a lot of suburban people who complain about busing and think it happens because the NAACP and ACLU made them do it when in reality districts combined in order to save taxpayer money and keep property taxes low.

No, I live in a very liberal town and they did it to equalize outcomes among the elementary schools because there was such a large disparity of preparedness levels when the kids reached middle school. My neighborhood elementary school had a great schools rating of 8 when I moved here 5 years ago and now it's a 5. I'm trying to convince my wife to move in the next two years before my oldest starts kindergarten.

They bus kids between the schools already in the district? You made it sound like the kids were coming from other towns. These are your own townspeople.

They combined the school districts a few years ago. The other town is basically Little El Salvador. After the combination they redrew the district maps and created a narrow corridor from my school down to their area. They all piled into apartments in the corridor because obviously they want the best school possible for their kids too but they ended up overwhelming the school to the point that more teaching is done in Spanish than English now and test scores have tanked.

That's what you get for not wanting to pay high property taxes like we do in NJ. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nah I'm not racist, I'm classist. The parents are hard working people for the most part, and I can't fault them for wanting the best for their children, but when they all pile into school districts together they overwhelm the available resources to the point that my kids will receive an inferior education because so much time will be spent on remedial learning and ESL issues. Thankfully my district has a STEM track for stronger students that is apparently pretty good. I'm still two years away, we'll see how it goes.

Again I just am going to point out that higher property taxes would have avoided the districts having to merge.

NJ, that you often shit talk for having the highest property taxes, doesn't merge districts. The small towns and cities would revolt if they had to share services with Camden, Newark, and Jersey City. The people in those towns are very happy with having their own board of educations and police. We also have the #1 ranked schools in the nation.

You get what you pay for.

Long Island property taxes are the highest in the nation. We didn't merge because we were bankrupt, we were merged unilaterally because we are unincorporated and it was politically advantageous for the Democratic Town Board to pair us up with the failing district. If we had a village board of our own it wouldn't have happened. Our only recourse is to incorporate as a separate Village within the Town. I've actually been thinking about trying to lead the charge to make it happen with one of my neighbors.

So you live in an unincorporated town without a central government and it failed. So your solution is to checks notes create a new city government to manage you?

It seems like libertarianism failed in practice.

You chose to live there, you're free to move.
Bad luck on your kid having to go to school with immigrants though.

the senator shouldn't be there at all then. the only productive thing that can possibly be done to the children is, quite literally, "giving them guidance".

they are there to petition her for political change.
for political change?! are you fucking kidding me? what kind of "political change" could those small kids possibly comprehend?

it’s a little hokey and staged to have politically illiterate children approach a career politician
it's not just "a little hokey" - it's completely inappropriate to use children in that way, imo - that, and, as i already said, a waste of senator's time as well.
if you open your mind too much your brain will fall out.

There's 16 year olds there, most of which probably know more than you do about politics...
