What is the best controller for the PC? I am guessing an X-Box or Steam one?

Steam controller is pish on account of not having two analogue sticks. Its major selling point is that it's compatible with literally every game because it simulates a mouse and keyboard, but having a trackpad on your right thumb is nowhere near as good as a thumbstick.

xbox is good, but I've been looking at the Logitech F310, because I've used the Logitech Cordless Rumblepad (which was actually handed down to me from jay_c), they're a lot cheaper and just as good imo. The F710 is the wireless version.

I recently came in contact with a XP machine. I left my Win 10 laptop at work. I had to use an old XP laptop because I felt lazy and that is all that was available to sit on the couch and smoke weed while watching T.V. and putting in grades (I was liberal with grades that day).

The XP laptop worked faster and better than the Win 7 laptop I later booted up to access the school's portal. WTF Microsoft?

Windows 10 is pretty fast.

I'd still rather have XP and have control of my machine back.

Win 10 acts like a virus. It has updated itself 3 times to the Windows Creator version and three times I had to roll it back because it creates errors. It is acting super aggressive now. Every time I start up, it start downloading the update. It leaves a copy of the the update installer on my desktop. It keeps re-enabling windows update in the services menu every time I disable it.

I am trying to block it with my firewall now. God, I hope this works.

Yeah, the Logitech F710 is really nice.

It is fully Xbox controller compatible. (In fact, you actually need to install it as such in Win10, or it won't get recognized.)
It has the colored ABXY buttons, two analog triggers and that Windows Gaming center button.
It also has a mechanical switch to toggle between Xinput and DirectInput, which is nice if an old game doesn't support the former, and you can't or don't want to use emulator software.

The only drawback is the Playstation controller shape.
That makes my wrists hurt after long sessions.

I've got myself an xbox 360 controller including receiver from the microsoft score. use it for everything and am very happy with it.

I also have a steam controller. Feels cheap and I prefer to use the 360 controller in 99% of games.

So I was able to block it from updating for 2 weeks using Avast firewall. I start up today and it starts asking again. This makes me think it changes the server address it uses to update every so often to prevent malware from disabling windows update? Does that mean that there is a different program talking to Microsoft's servers that tells it to modify windows update to a new address? How far does this go?

My Windows 10 computer is scheduled to run updates during mid-AM hours. No problems, no malware/virus positives (false or otherwise). Why not let it update? It could be patching a hole.

@tazz Steam controller feels light, has a weird grip, and the buttons are loud.

Some of my games flat out won't run on Windows creators version. I had to buy a whole new video card a few months back because Windows installed and kept forcing drivers on my computer that wouldn't work because it updated to Windows creator once. Like windows would straight up replace the drivers seconds after I installed the correct version.

It forced the update on me again yesterday. I am just giving up on stopping it.

Can anyone recommend a good laptop?  Probably need 8GB ram and an SSD, but that seems pretty standard these days.

I have been looking at the HP Ryzen line.  Anyone have any experience with them?

Which produces more heat? a SATA SSD or one of those that are like ram sticks that go on your mother board?

Got a free gaming PC from a friend. Just needed a new HD.

I am super happy I still had a copy of Windows 7 to put on it. Very happy to get to use that OS again.

So I got it up and running. It has a i3 2500k with a water cooler, 8 GB of ram, 700 watt PSU, and an AMD 6790. I tossed the 6790 and replaced with it a spare AMD 380 I had. Put in a cheap 120 GB SSD. Not a bad HTPC. Only problem is that it doesn't detect the ethernet adapter on the board. Tried to install drivers for it and Windows tells me it straight up doesn't have an adapter. So I have to order a pcie wifi adapter and hope it works for the motherboard since I had other issues with it.

Altogether I put in less than $100 and got a HTPC out of it.

Hello everyone!

How do you feel about the PS Dualshock 4 for PC? I got some friends raving about it, but their tech knowledge is surface-level (so is mine).

I decided to dual boot Win 10 and 7 on the same system. I also have Linux on a USB I use for personal banking. The Win systems are for media and games.

There are currently no less than 5 games that will only run on my Win 7 OS that will not run on the latest version of Win 10. Windows 10 is the worst piece of software in human history.

Windows 10 is great. It keeps randomly breaking in strange ways, so I get to make more money fixing people's problems. :^)
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
