i think not wanting children can be a fine and responsible choice to make. live your life as you want. it's when people try to turn that choice into a criticism of people who do have a wife and children that i raise an eyebrow. yeah, sure, you've got it all figured out. loneliness is the optimum choice. riiiight.

I have friends that are married that don't want kids. They like their life, or know they are selfish, or feel they don't have enough money. I also have married friends that have tried a hundred times and medically aren't able.

Macbeth is right in that having kids is generally easy and there are a lot of lousy parents, the trick is in accepting that being a good parent takes effort. For those who don't want to make the effort, they probably shouldn't have kids. I won't judge that decision.

Luckily, the only options aren't knocking someone up right out of high school or being forever alone. Even in my mid 20s, I don't feel like I want kids (pretty much because I don't like children as it is), but you kind of have to anyway unless you want the irresponsible folk to make up the majority of those breeding. Furthermore, in the words of the eminent father of our time Homer Jay Simpson, "Kids are the best, Apu. You can teach them to hate the things you hate."

Just to steer back on topic and throw them a bone, McMaster is actually a well-qualified choice as Mattis seemed to be. It is somewhat disconcerting that the administration doesn't really have any respectable folk from outside the military, though.
