My parents are vaguely liberal but generally apolitical. I don't think I had a single political conversation with either of them growing up. My brothers seem to have followed my lead.

Both of my sisters and my mother voted Clinton. My dad voted Trump. Only because he hates Clinton. I gave up trying to reason with him about it. His arguments eventually break down to "give him a chance" and "there is nothing you can do now".
He is a white baby boomer who voted twice for Obama and said he would vote for Michelle if she ran. So I don't think he buys into the MAGA thing. There is just something about Clinton that turns people off. That's one reason why I don't think this MAGA thing is a mass movement as much as Clinton being a fuck up.

I really haven't either before this year, maybe a bit with my dad. My parents could so readily be low-information Midwest Republicans who just go with the flow. They're not terribly interested in political news or discussion, but seem to change with popular opinion on things like gay marriage. My dad caught a bit of the gun fever, but says a lot of the people on a gun forum he frequents are crazy. My mom is especially fond of the turn of phrase "I'm not racist, but [something racist]", but she also is very understanding of others once she actually meets and interacts with them. I think because my siblings and I are somewhat more in tune to news and discussion, my parents have resisted the Republican shift to the right. Though being on Facebook hasn't helped as they aren't the most critical of random information from the internet.Jay wrote:

I have to say the women's march both terrified me and made me ponder. The extreme feminists, the types that want to completely sideline men (especially white men), really make me feel alienated and fearful. This in turn, I think, helped me to actually understand their points regarding misogyny. A lot of them have felt sidelined and slighted (sometimes rightly, sometimes imagined) because of their gender and I can see why they would take up their position.
I mean, I absolutely despise them because two wrongs don't make a right, but they do make me feel like speaking up to blatantly misogynistic men. Misogyny is not cool. I never thought it was cool. And if the alternative is empowering these angry freakish feminazis, I'll happily step on some male toes. I'd rather exist in an equal partnership. It's what I strive for in my marriage, and what I think we should strive for as a society, while also recognizing that there are actually differences between the sexes.

It's not a paranoia thing, it was a moment of empathy while watching news coverage. Like damn, I'd be pissed if I was in that position too. I wasn't implying that feminazis are coming to cut off my penis, I was saying that I'd rather we all move towards an equitable power arrangement based on meritocracy rather than sex or race.
