It will be interesting in the next few decades how the U.S. starts coping with more automation in jobs as noted in that Humans Need Not Apply video. We are going to reach a point where there literally will be not enough jobs for all the people we have and we will need to essentially just pay some sort of welfare so people can survive. If the current gibberish about welfare queens driving Cadillacs continues, I loathe to think what the political climate will be when that comes around.
Robot soldiers will be used to commit genocide on the poor. I am not being sarcastic.

Quoted for obviousness.
Do you live in a council house and have teams of doctors and politicians telling you how to go about your day?

Or are you on the other side, and instead the guy that walks around all day being offended by the decisions others make and wishing there was someone that would set them to rights?

Have you been a peasant for so long that you constantly need to look to your betters for guidance?

Or do you imagine that you are one of the betters with all the necessary wisdom?

Personally, I think people are rather intelligent as individuals and more than capable of making their own decisions. At this point people know smoking gives them cancer. They smoke anyway. That's their choice. At this point people know that exercising and eating right is better for their health. They choose to do neither. Again, that's their choice. Apparently you wish to change their ability to choose. The fact that you think that's reasonable is more disgusting to me than having to see fat people or smell smoke.
I don't see what this has to do with me agreeing with Mac's point about it driving up the cost of healthcare.
P.S. I don't even agree with the idea of banning smoking etc. but A for effort there.

That happened about 30 years ago, and is why your economy is now built on debt.

Not sure how this relates to firearms but anyway....

On what do you base this? Most people can't balance their chequebook and prefer to pay 20% interest to Visa instead of 5% to their bank.

Maybe to a stupid person the average person would seem intelligent.

Half the population is below average intelligence - this alone should blow your argument out of the water.

The Republican-run Texas state legislature voted last year to allow students to carry concealed handguns into classrooms, dorms, just about anywhere on campus. If that seems like a bad idea to you, imagine how you’d feel if you were a professor. There’s nothing quite like the free exchange of ideas in an armed art history 301 seminar. The academic chilling effect seems pretty obvious for students and faculty.

If having armed students seems like it would pretty significantly alter the balance of power and academic freedom in a college classroom, you need look no further than the Univ. of Houston. The university’s faculty senate held a meeting recently with a Powerpoint presentation aimed at assisting faculty in adapting to the new gun-toting normal. Here’s a slide that pretty much sums it up:

Now college professors will have real life trigger warnings

"Only meet 'that student' in controlled circumstances"

So it is OK to identify and victimise people over their lifestyle choices, thanks for clearing that up.

He's a retard cause he's wasting money and doesn't have ear protection, but it looks like he's at a range so who cares.

I'm confused what the gun actually adds. It's not like it's 1812 or anything.

I had a glock once.  Actually two.  I regret selling them.

So apparently in Orange County it is ok to throw a racial slur at a teenage girl, assault a teenage boy and pull a gun on them AND fire a shot without being arrested.

typical case of a gun and a bit of authority making a person into an asshole. guns do weird things to peoples' psychologies. all that power and the ability to threaten and taunt. i'm so glad that british police, active or retired, don't normally carry guns. there's something quaint about having to chase someone on foot with nothing but a little retractable stick.

Or in a lot of cases now pepper spray and maybe a taser.
And even that can turn most of 'em into megalomaniac assholes.

what kind of stupid fuck thinks it's ok to
1) throw a racial slur at a teenage girl
2) scuffle with a teenager
3) bring a gun to said scuffle (with a fucking chambered round)
4) fire the gun in the immediate vicinity of a group of teenagers

If this were a normal black civilian, there's a good chance the police would have shot him.  Instead they arrested the teenager for trespassing and didn't even detain the guy.

I wish you all could read the comments.  People in OC are so fucking stupid it's mind boggling sometimes.

scary yes but the psychological dynamic would have been very different if a gun and easy lethal force were involved.

firearms just put people in a weird headspace. a big smoking dick to wave around.

Not just scary though. That guy was easily within lethal range for a blade. Glad he was apparently just posturing and that it ended well for the folks who took him down.

I almost feel bad that the cop looks exactly as I'd envisioned from just hearing about it.
