That was a phenomenal year for film and it could have gone to a lot of movies. Whiplash, Nightcrawler, Boyhood, Foxcatcher, etc.

I didn't find any of those interesting. Boyhood was a gimmick.

really? the tracking shots are what impressed you/people? the film does genuinely clever things with the border between art and life, imitation and enactment, serious art and entertainment. none of those themes are novel but it treated them in a fun and irreverent way. it pitched itself just right. tracking shots are not really prima facie impressive. maybe in the era of celluloid film or something when the form was new.

It was pretty awesome when he shot his nose off.

Was that better or worse than when that guy cut that guys ear off in Reservoir Dogs?

Suicide Squad - 7/10
From all the negative reviews, and since I don't like the DC super heroes, I didn't have any high expectations.
It turned out to be the best DC movie so far for me. They obviously copied a lot from Marvel's style.

I really don't get why Spoiler (highlight to read):
Boomerang is in the Suicide Squad. He seemed pretty uneffective compared to the others, basically only acting as the class clown.

sometimes she will be her normal self while the witch disappears somewhere.
Spoiler (highlight to read):
The witch only existed in spiritual form, trapped in that statue. She possesses the scientist, who can apparently suppress the witches evil spirit, just like a person with multiple personality disorder.

It is never explained why the Navy Seals were looking for this girl but whatever.
Spoiler (highlight to read):
Because the witch is the most powerful of them all.
I'd say, instantly teleporting across the globe is even better than Superman could ever be.

SuperJail Warden wrote:

Spoiler (highlight to read):
They managed to find a way to control the witch by having her heart in a suitcase. How they found her heart or managed to get it into a suitcase is never explained but the government lady carries it around with her.
Spoiler (highlight to read):
They know about the heart from the archaeologist's research and tales.
They found the heart in exactly the same cave where the witch was trapped.
The heart separated from the witch acts like a voodoo doll that can cause pain/incapacitate the witch.
All that is shown in flashbacks and live in action (i.e. government lady poking needles into the heart).

Spoiler (highlight to read):
teleports to some office buildingwhere they have another statue in a closet with other stuff just sitting there.
The witch breaks off the head of the statue and lets her brother out and tells him they need to destroy humanity together. Why she waited so long to do all of this and not like 5 minutes after she took over the scientist isn't explained nor do they mention why she didn't teleport away with her heart when she got a chance.
Spoiler (highlight to read):
That building was the government lady's hideout/bedroom.
The suitcase with the heart was boobytrapped with an alarm that could sense the witch's presence after teleporting in.
Apparently, the witch can't quickly defuse and alarm and open the suitcase. Also, a handgun lying next to sleeping government lady scared her.
In a room nearby, she found her brother's bottle trap.

Waffle Street.

"Indie" movie about a 2008 crysis refugee who works a blue collar job at a restaurant. Nothing amazing but good enough for a watch on NFlix if you're bored. Only 80-some minutes

You wrote a 460 word review of the movie and even bothered to use spoiler tags, while getting several things wrong and missed others that were shown lengthily on screen.

They're remaking Papillon. Hopefully they don't ruin it, but of course they likely will.

Hacksaw Ridge,   8/10,   87% Rotten Tomatoes

It is a little heavy handed with the Christianity and starts a bit slow but things pick up once he gets to boot camp about 25 minutes in. The Battle of Okinawa takes up the second half of the movie and was as good or maybe even better than the D-Day scene in Saving Private Ryan.

Rogue 1, 8/10 as an individual movie, 10/10 as a star wars film.

it fit in the universe perfectly and addressed a lot of longstanding questions in the series. very happy. look forward to more,

Rogue One - 7/10 Not bad I guess, it would be great if there could be something original in a Star Wars film. Also I thought it was a bit lame using AR15s painted white as blasters, and the blind warrior monk thing has gone beyond cliché, jumped the shark and waterskied over a waterfall into the open mouth of a T-Rex long ago.

Arrival - 8/10 OK, not the greatest but a pretty good film. It was quite atmospheric and a little thought provoking.

Fantastic Beasts - 5/10 Killed some time I guess

I am looking forward to Passengers and Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Suicide Squad - 5/10

Too much to cover, too little time. Can easily tell lots of Joker/Harley was cut out. What all that was left didn't develop into anything for all the time it spent trying, and distracted from the rest of the characters and plot. The cartoons had more time with these two, and told a better story.

Liked Davis as Waller. Watching Smith as Deadshot just felt like I was hopping from ID4 to Men in Black or something.

Solid 50/50.
