For emergent/emergency care? Absolutely
my close friend had a blood clot in his brain. 4 days in a Uni california hospital cost him 50k.

thanks obama.

Sounds like he needed a ton of specialist care and around the clock supervision.

Yes. I put that word in there.,
Health officials cited three Massachusetts hospitals in the past six months for wrongly sending away patients from their emergency rooms, in one case resulting in the death of a patient while en route to another facility.

In that episode, caregivers at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River failed to provide needed medical treatment before transferring the patient, who was unstable and in respiratory distress, state investigators concluded.

In a case at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, an on-call surgeon refused to come in late at night to perform an emergency operation on a patient with flesh-eating bacteria, investigators found. The patient was transferred to another hospital, and the surgeon no longer operates on patients at St. Vincent, hospital officials said.

Hospitals that break federal rules ensuring public access to emergency services can face especially tough sanctions. Flagrant or repeat violators risk losing their right to treat Medicare and Medicaid patients, which can cost a hospital millions of dollars.

Not really, they didn't even give him surgery. Mostly just doctor assessment and making sure he wasnt' going to die. the blood clot was on the outside of the skull luckily so no major neuro damage.

Flew back to Taiwan and it cost him a total of $0 thanks to NHS. Even if he didn't have Taiwan NHS it would probably cost around a total of 1-2grand USD for same level of care he had in the USA.

"Garbage" coverage at that rate is still very expensive for low wages that struggle to meet things like rent, food, childcare, etc., but no separate health care for the wealthy. Gotcha.
You get what you pay for. The silver plans are only like $60 more than the cheapest bronze plan. The people who end up in a bad place are the types that pinch pennies in the wrong place. Healthcare is not the place to skimp.
Are you saying people are skimping as if they all have great heaping wads of disposable income, aren't in debt, and aren't being crushed by collections and overdue payments? If you have a little bit of money, you could travel to South America or Thailand for things like dental surgery, spleen removal, or whatever without breaking the bank. If you're poor, stuck here, and with crappy or no insurance …

Totally egalitarian.

Classic Ryan and Trump. They're like an odd couple.

Trump Promises Paul Ryan That He’ll Sound Slightly Less Like Hitler

“Paul basically said, ‘Can you help me out here? Can you not sound like Hitler all the time?’” Trump said. “And I was like, ‘Paul, I can absolutely do that for you.’”

I have to pay for ambulance in aus as well and we got NHS. It's to stop people calling ambo's for the most minor thing. It's like 120 bucks each time they're called so it's not exactly a huge amount of money.

It's anywhere from $400-2000 in the U.S. You have to pay for it even if you were hurt by something and someone else called. Hit by a bus? Still got to pay.

Same thing here. You pay first but then later you can bring an action against the tortfeasor for your medical costs.

I am not against some fee. I can understand the logic of it. But our rates are 4-20 times higher than yours. I assumed it  a fee was just another case of our crazy system.

It does vary state to state though. Here in QLD it used to be slightly odd because we paid like $20 a quarter for full ambulance cover which was charged as a levy on our electricity bill. Technically we now just get full free ambulance cover, but obviously they get the money from somewhere lol.

We have to pay for private insurance cover in NSW for ambo, it's like 120 bucks a year by itself so it work's out pretty much the same =/

Austria's new president is from the Green party and 72 years old.
The first time ever that the president is not from the socialists or the conservatives.

He won the run-off with 50.3% of the votes, turning the result from 48% only after the postal votes had been counted the next day.
He won against the far right wing party.
The socialists and the conservatives, the two big parties who basically ruled over Austria since the emperor got kicked out (not mentioning the fascist civil era and the Nazi regime), got completely smacked down in the first voting round.

They are even more leftist in many aspects, but also cater to the young, modern, bourgeois clientele.

In fact, in one of Austria's states, the Greens were partner in a coalition with the conservatives for over 13 years, something which only recently happened with the socialists for the first time.

FYI, with 'socialists' I mean the Social Democratic Party of Austria, which is the continuation of Austria's labor party from the 19th century.

Univision anchor León Krauze sat down with Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders this week to talk about Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and U.S. foreign policy towards Latin America.

Sanders spoke about the drug war and immigration, but when pressed on the levels of violence in Central America caused by the U.S.’ deportation of hardened gang members, the Vermont Senator said “Look, you’re asking me questions about the impact on Central America, which honestly I should know more than I do know.”

Sanders balked again when asked about the situation in South America.

“You are asking me questions about Latin America that I am very interested in but right now I’m running for president of the United States,” Sanders said in response to a question about the implosion of left wing governments in Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil.

How embarrassing. Like I said before, Sanders only has one issue he knows how to talk about.

Clinton's response: "Oh yes, I know much about that region.  I played an integral part in the military coup in Honduras then lied about it."

You're right.  Hillary's got a much better foreign policy resume.  All about that experience!

Sanders lacks foreign policy experience.  At least he is honest about it.

Lol you just can't help trying to deflect onto Clinton.

The president has more foreign policy responsibility than anyone else in government. He is almost totally responsible for representing the U.S. interest. Him being weak there isn't helpful.
