i just added a WD Raptor to my rig.. i only use it for my games cause thats what takes up most of the room on my computer.. but as soon as i installed it my computer has been acting up.. i had already had 2 HD's already, so i copied the files from the little one over to my other one and got rid of the little one.. that helped with the speed a little bit.. i defragged, scanned for errors, scanned for viruses and spyware, but still slow.. instead of taking about 10-15 secs to boot to login screen it takes 40, then loading windows has quadrupled its time.. any help would be appreciated... thanks

put windows on the raptor as well (thats how i have it: raptor: OS & Games, 2nd Programs, 3ed&4th (RAID 1) data). THat should help boot times. When you say copied from small drive: is that just data or is it programs? if a program cannot be found on a specified drive, i can really slow things down. Also a full drive is always slower than a empty one
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Max is correct, you want the fastest disks to run the OS and be in install location for your games. Have another big and slow disk for MP3's, movies, etc.

The easiest way to do this is a full reinstall of XP, and all your software.
There are other ways to move data from disk to another but they require some more skills [google disk imaging for more info].

I dont know why the boot time is slower. Is the raptor the first sata2 drive you have? if yes then you will have more pre windows controlers to POST, which will dealy the boot process.

I hope this helps. If you want more info keep posting.

copied from small drive= like 5 gigs of mp3's, vids, pics.... useless stuff
the raptor is the first SATA drive, yes.. i know there are more drivers and controllers to load up.. but this is insanely slow compared to before.. i know about disk imaging.. but really dont feal like doing all that..
i have a 40 gig IDE and my raptor.. also i have a 6 gig IDE (the small drive i used to copy all stuff over) and a 758 mb IDE drive... i have my OS and useless stuff on the 40gig IDE and all games on raptor.. but you want me to put my OS and games of raptor and useless stuff on the 40 gig.. correct?

OS + applications on the Raptor, everything else on your other drives.

It's the setup I run and it works quite well.
