I work a part-time job in the winter selling xmas trees for shits with my buddies. I always mark 1 on my w-4 but I never get any federal income tax withheld. Always $0. This year I marked 0 on my w-4 but still nothing withheld. Ultimately I have to end up forking over ~$300 to the gov come tax time (i.e. now).

you have to make around $10K for federal income tax to be withheld. Your problem is that you do not make enough at your side job to meet this threshold, but you do at your regular job. So you claim income from both jobs, but at one you don't make enough to meet the minimum withholding requirement at one of them.
I think (not sure) you can request a certain amount to be withheld from every paycheck so you don't have this problem in the future.

Yeah you can write on your w4 if you want any "extra" withheld. Just enter in the dollar amount.

im a fan of not letting the IRS use my money and collect interest while giving me nothing in return (except for MY money at the end of the year when i file taxes). But I understand why some people like to get a fat check from the government once a year. Also, I am about 3/4 of the way through paying off a decent chunk of change to the IRS as a result of getting audited, so I may not be the best person to ask for advice on tax-related stuff.
it's all of $300. I doubt I'll be audited and even if they do, I can pay it off fairly easily.

Hard drive failed. That humming sound I heard coming from it must have been the death rattle. Ordered a new SSD but couldn't next day ship it.

I back up everything important. The thing that bothers me is the lost settings and stored passwords. I have so many accounts I can't keep track of.
i started a txt file with every place i stored passwords. not the passwords themselves, just a list of programs/websites that i keep them on. that seems to help for me for some reason. visually seeing the list helps me remember which passwords i used where

I stated using the password manager that came bundled with my antivirus. I hope it backs up the passwords online though I think it doesn't. I feel bad for not just buying the subscription but will now.

Finished installing my SSD. Already wish I got the 500 instead of the 250. I can't keep all my porn
why do you have to keep your media on an SSD? it's not like a video file or an mp3 has a read/boot time. i keep all my films and old desktop backups on regular SATA hd drives. i have 1tb of music on an external usb drive. no sense in taking up (relatively) expensive SSD storage with media.

one of my amazing speakers just failed. was sat here reading and listening at low volume and ... POP! main cone doesn't work anymore. tweeter still does. i'm guessing the voice-coil somehow burnt out, although god knows how. i never drive these things loud and my gain staging is fine – no volume spikes. room stinks of epoxy resin / acrid blown capacitor smell now. worst thing is that the speakers are hand-made in berlin and it's going to cost me a fucking fortune to send it off for repair. christ i'm annoyed. £500 up in smoke just whilst i'm having a relaxing evening.
