More gun toting folks than most NWRs I've been to, and the staff was a little less friendly and unaccommodating than most. They offered to let me stay if I brought back beef jerky and propane powered space heaters, which I also though weird for a wildlife refuge. Saw a few ducks.

Plus ones I can't tell if being ironic or actually in favor of the occupiers.

The Bundy militia has had yet another humiliating setback, as one of its members was arrested while venturing into town for supplies in a stolen federal vehicle procured from the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, where the right-wing group has assembled with extensive weaponry since January 3rd.

The arrested member was identified by police as Kenneth Medenbach, 62, of Crescent, Oregon. According to the Harney County Sheriff’s office, he was arrested for unauthorized use of a government vehicle after being spotted outside a Safeway in Burns, Oregon, about 30 miles outside of the occupied refuge.

Up to eight of Bundy's followers were detained, the source said.

Shots were fired after authorities made the stop, according to the source. It's not clear who fired first.

The group of protesters has occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge since January 2 to protest federal land policies.

Bundy, son of controversial Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, and others started out protesting the sentencing of Dwight Hammond and his son Steven, ranchers convicted of arson on federal lands in Oregon.

But a march supporting the Hammonds led to the armed occupation of the refuge, with occupiers decrying what they call government overreach when it comes to federal lands.
