Don't know. Not sure. This is some system specialist IT thing. I'm afraid they won't pay as much as I get now. We'll just have to wait and see.

One of our idiot customers is back.
Four years ago we did a rush project for him, solved all his problems, dug him out of a massive hole he had dug himself and made no money for ourselves as he raped the government contract.

Now he's back. So far he has
- Ignored all the - documented - lessons learned from last time
- Ignored all design input I carefully repeated for him at the start of this round
- Ignored all the input I gave him at the halfway stage of the design process

Now he wants us to sign off on the project feasibility yesterday - to make the product literally requires fluid to flow uphill, parts to hold themselves together by magic, the creation of microscopic skyhooks, and unfittable parts to fit themselves together by some kind of teleportation or sublimation process. This really is the equivalent of the fuel tank which requires a dead welder to be delivered inside each one, except this needs a tiny elf with six hands who can survive 12 hours in slowly curing epoxy before expiring.

And if I have to spend another 20 minutes in a conference room as he tries to connect his laptop to the projector, and then realises he left his presentation at his office - all would be good if he could remember his VPN login, which he can't, there could well be trouble.

I'm well overdue to get fired from this job and I really don't care what happens from this point onwards.

I have 5 projects due on the 19th and need to put in about 40 hours of overtime in the next 8 days in order to make my deadlines. Bye bye 3 day weekend. I'll see my son some time next weekend

Seeing your kid every other weekend seems like something you should get used to. 50% of marriages end in divorce.

have you ever actually worked a job you hate for 50 hours a week just solely for the money? you should try it sometime. it sucks balls. you end up spending way more money than is wise just to distract yourself from the fact that you find 80% of your lived existence a chore.

those are the ones least likely to play the game in general.  If you have cool shit and that's always been a part of your life, you don't really hold it as holy, ya know?

they aren't exactly conventionally wealthy in the way you associated with 'the rich' as a class. most of them don't come from shit and are first-generation wealthy. it's very easy to lose it all without those foundations or roots, and the ethos/culture that goes with it. one bad manager or financial advisor and you can pretty much piss it all away. same thing with musicians and popstars. a lot of the biggest pop culture icons from the 90s/00s have quietly filed themselves as bankrupt recently, after being pretty much the biggest thing in the UK for a decade. turns out they were investing all their earnings in really shitty schemes or some terrible bubble somewhere.

lol "50 hours." Come work in America for 80+ hrs/wk apart from whatever time you spend at it from being on call 24/7 and join the rest of the drones who have lost their ability to focus clearly due to years of forced multitasking.

i'd wish i can get a job that's only 50 hours a week in law that's like a fucking dream come true lol.

Or 2 generations of spoiled kids. Theres a chinese phrase about how wealth can only sustain three generations.

The GFC really scared a lot of wealth families tbh, seeing how massive financial powerhouses get completely rekt to oblivion.

China's got massive problems in their stockmarket as well and a lot of people are borrowing money to invest in shares. Not only have you got wealth that's pissed away, but you got people who end up in spiralling debts they can't pay back.

For sure, however its very wearing working your ass off, going the extra mile, earning the ire of the CEO and direct manager as you help someone out only to find you have to do it all again and then some because they can't be bothered to just listen to straightforward advice which took a lot of effort to generate.
It wouldn't be so bad if it were basic labour, being creative is double-tiring.
