My other computer is 5 years old and doesnt run very well. I've noticed it always tends to heat up the room if used for an hour or so. My question is, would putting a table fan next to the back make it run faster?
check and make sure its not running hot, my spare room will heat up if i use my computer for a couple hours, if its getting fairly hot, (above 70c), it can heat up a room over time, and yes this can greatly affect PC performance, as well as do permanent damage. You may want to check if all your fans in the PC are working properly if the above occurs. About your room, it will heat up regardless, putting the fan on you may help, I open up a window if it gets too bad. My question for you is, are you more worried about the comp, or sweating your sac off in your room?
Im more worried about the comp.
Well, look in your BIOS to see if you can find any temp outputs.
If not, try MBM5: http://mbm.livewiredev.com/
No real way to tell if your mobo has sensors or not without trying.
If it doesn't, get one of those indoor/outdoor thermometers and stick the sensor as close to your CPU (on the heatsink, near the CPU will probably do) as you can. That'll give you a rough idea.
