A very sad day.

I am not trying to be edgy. 95% of the people posting and writing about how sad they are didn't give a shit about him when he was alive. They didn't support him or his work. But now everyone is fishing for Facebook likes, upvotes, karma, and other stuff by internet mourning him. You are all exploiting a depressed man's suicide. You should be ashamed.

That's kind of a pointless thing to say. It's like you're saying if a person wasn't a dedicated fan and saw all his life's work they can't mourn the death of someone who at one time or another brought them happiness. The last thing I saw Williams in, (chronologically,) was The Butler which was little more than a cameo. But I've enjoyed his performances in stand up, in films like Aladdin, Dead Poet's Society, Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting, Good Morning Vietnam, Jumanji, Hook, Insomnia, The Birdcage, Death to Smoochy, (I don't know why this film was a flop - I think it's great,) his interviews, his commentary, his various public appearances... from probably since I was first aware, (saw Hook at the cinema when I was four,) until now. And I'll continue to enjoy his work in the future as well.

The thing about a person's death is that it immediately brings that person to your attention. You immediately reflect on them and their lives regardless of whether you've given them any attention recently. A pretty common reaction is grief and sadness - especially in regard to a figure that many have appreciated at some time or another in their own lives. Someone who seemed outwardly to be a genuinely kind, happy, and funny person.

You give an arbitrary figure of 95% of posts being false expressions of grief - how the Hell are you to know something like that? Your apparent judgement call - i.e. only the dedicated followers of Williams' work are allowed to feel grief - doesn't seem to suggest it comes from much logical thinking. I'm going to go ahead and say you're just completely wrong.

Another way of saying "I have been shown the error of my ways by a superior intellect but am too burned to admit it so will spout a cliche to make myself seem cool and nonchalant." It's okay dude, we're all friends here.

Former President Jimmy Carter has cancer, and it has spread to other parts of his body, he announced Wednesday.

Carter, 90, had a "small mass" removed from his liver during surgery earlier this month. At the time, he received a prognosis for a full recovery.

But he said Wednesday in a brief statement that "recent liver surgery revealed that I have cancer that now is in other parts of my body."
