Yeah I'd say the data is pretty spot on in fairness. And I hate giving Dilbert credit.

orange hound you probably did more than any other staff member during bf2s's peak hey-day to sour the milk and generally pooh-pooh the community's fun (what there was left of it).

you made bf2s feel like a quaker community at times.

The mods did a terrible job managing this place. It is amazing it keep up as long as it did

Teenage-me should definitely have been a mod. I was clearly a very responsible individual.

Teenage me should never have been a mod. 27 year old me probably shouldn't be one either. Not that I've done any actual mod work aside from deleting the odd bot/spam thread for years.

In fairness though this is a forum built on the foundation of statistics from a 2005 video game that's now had how many successors? How it's stayed active for as long as it has is down to an accident for the most part or a chemical reaction of clashing and complimentary personalities but when I actually think about how much work I did and how much work the other staff did I think we played a pretty significant part in its longevity too.

Most of you have no idea what it took sometimes, especially in the forum's heyday and in the time before the server kept crashing. Sure we may not have made the best decisions in retrospect or even at the time, we may have pissed off a lot of people who thought they had better ideas, we trod on a lot of toes, but here we are nearly ten years later; a Battlefield 2 Internet forum.

So in fairness to 18 year old me and the other staff who ruined this place from the inside I think we did an okay job. Not brilliant but okay.

i don't really care about the mod drama and petty disagreements, that's as old as internet forums itself. there will always be moderators who let it all get to their head and there will be silly dramas. my point was more about orange hound slapping perma-bans on some of the forum's most active members for relatively small infractions, as if the forum has a bountiful supply of active members. and then for years afterwards you had the forums most frequent and high-output posters limited to these moronic one-post-an-hour accounts that could only use, like, 2 sub-boards.

for like 40% of this forum's life it was the same 20-30 people hanging out, shooting the shit. the admins were still policing it as if there was a huge member-base that would take offence or be upset at the forum drama. it was like pandering to an imaginary audience. bizarre.

Hmm, yeah, was never sure about those limited accounts. Especially because mods have no ability to "promote" people as touted by the user title, (as far as I'm aware,) and OrangeHound only pops his head in a couple of times a year so couldn't exactly keep tabs on how things were going. I think this place suffered from a bit of absentee landlord-ism. I remember a while back it took a Facebook post for Chuy to even be aware his server was down for a long time.

It could have used a person who was here enough to keep their eye on things. A caretaker more than an administrator but nonetheless someone who had the ability to make sure the place ticked along as well as possible. Someone to re-tool things a little from a site in its prime to one in it's autumn. I think OrangeHound tried that a bit, Post Limited was a lot better than the old approval process given the circumstances in my opinion, it's problem was that no-one but OrangeHound as the only active-ish Admin had the ability to promote anyone.

I still think the server crashes did more to clear out the population and halt the activity but your criticisms are fair.

Meanwhile forum moderation has been altogether unnecessary for a long time as most people know enough about each other to be able to sort out their own problems. Aside from deleting the odd spammer which is pretty rare, (thanks to steps taken by OrangeHound to a large extent.) If this was a company I'd have been made redundant long ago.

Last time I had to actually sort out of a problem was when Lavadisk went insane in around September 2012. I banned him until until 2013 so he'd stop harping on about the end of the world. Turned out his brain was addled by DMT and he was subsequently institutionalised. He came back briefly at the end of 2013 to blame me for that which is how I know. Like I said, most of you have no idea the kind of crap we've had to deal with over the years...

fun fact: usmarine had 20,000 post on his 11 bravo account and 24,000 on his usmarine. Adding that total together makes him the highest posting member of all time. He had other accounts too.

11 bravo was marine. Eleven bravo was gunslinger.

Eleven bravo is the military classification for infantry specialist in the U.s. military
