I think American's don't understand how much we mix and match metric and Imperial.
We're not that European.
I don't think you know how retarded that is.

Let buy fuel by the litre to put into fuel tanks which are measured in litres and then rate your fuel consumption by MPG, WTF!
Lets have a highway code printed in metres, motorway location marker in Kms, then use Miles for speed limits and distance markers.
Lets quote temperatures in F one day and C the next for no reason.
Lets also mix and match recipes with a lb of this and litre of that cut into X inch pieces and cooked at Y Degrees C.

You need to just have a generation that never uses Imperial to make the transition. If you all of a sudden changed MPG to km/L, people used to it will have no "feel" for it, but those who grow up knowing only that will be able to use it as a reference. You can know what 5 lbs feels like or how far 8 feet looks like is, but don't have a frame of reference for a kilogram or 50 centimeters.

I like how 'mericans have such fondness for their English overlords they're still using the empire's measurement system.

When I'm doing projects I sometimes use cubits, just for fun.

You mean l/100km
but (I) don't have a frame of reference for a kilogram or 50 centimeters
1kg ~2lb

50cm ~ 1 Cubit

You mean those formerly British subjects didn't invent an entire new system of measurement? Outrageous! L/100km and km/L measure different things, though, so I stuck with metricifying the same thing. Further, I didn't say I don't have a frame of reference for those things. I personally am very capable of interconverting between the two systems. I'm saying that Americans generally will default to Imperial estimation.

No you don't. The 3 billion odd in the 60's were able to convert without much trouble.

No need to invent anything, just move forward like the rest of the world.

You're the one who essentially said those crazy Muricans should have invented a non-British system of measurement a few hundred years before metrification.

Too bad that decimal time didn't catch on.
I guess the French with their silly floral names for all the months during the revolution was the reason.

That's the second time someone suggested Americans should have created a whole new system of measurement just to somehow spite the British whilst confusing the fuck out of everyone else.
