no, he's too effeminate and girly for me. i'm looking for a man's man. you know, someone who is confident enough to appear on the world stage with no shirt, someone who understands how to wield power, someone blond. bonus if he speaks english with an accent and knows how to write Cyrillic . . .

the vast majority of psychiatrists disagree.

"No one knows what causes heterosexuality, homosexuality or bisexuality. Homosexuality was once thought to be the result of troubled family dynamics or faulty psychological development. Those assumptions are now understood to have been based on misinformation and prejudice. Currently there is a renewed interest in searching for biological etiologies for homosexuality. However, to date [u]there are no replicated scientific studies supporting any specific biological etiology for homosexuality. Similarly, no specific psychosocial or family dynamic cause for homosexuality has been identified, including histories of childhood sexual abuse. Sexual abuse does not appear to be more prevalent in children who grow up to identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual, than in children who identify as heterosexual."

tell me this isn't a cover for beefcake porn
Serious irony. The president of a fascist police state that is against gay propaganda allows himself to be publicized as a homo-erotica posterboy.

the vast majority of psychiatrists disagree american psychiatrists supposedly disagree.
and in one respect you are totally right - the chances to have this matter researched and, more importantly, presented to the public with no bias of any kind coming to play are very low. you are lied to, we are lied to, everybody is lied to.
which doesn't change the fact that sexuality does have psychological and social aspects to it, meaning it can be influenced.

Royal College of Psychiatrists wrote:
Opposition to homosexuality in Europe reached a crescendo in the Nineteenth Century. What had earlier been regarded as a vice, evolved into a perversion or psychological illness. Official sanction of homosexuality both as illness and (for men) a crime led to discrimination, inhumane treatments and shame, guilt and fear for gay men and lesbians (King and Bartlett, 1999). In 1973 the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its diagnostic glossary of mental disorders. The International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organisation followed suit in 1992.
This unfortunate history demonstrates how marginalisation of a group of people who have a particular personality feature (in this case homosexuality) can lead to harmful medical practice and a basis for discrimination in society.

Thank you for sharing your expertise in the field of psychology. I'm sure they're all just doing it wrong.
no doubt. you are a brainwashed bunch, almost totalitarian in your inability to look at things objectively. it's all trends with you: when it's trendy to be supportive of gays - to are supportive of gays, when it's trendy to be hating on some far away horrble dictatorship you know nothing about - you hate that, and so on and so forth. you are literally bitches of your media, forever repeating whatever you are told, never using your common sense. it would've been funny hadn't it been so sad.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

I think most of us are looking at it objectively. I haven't once said whether I support gays or not. Just said that it isn't an impairment and can't be influenced by outside sources.
Cos you know, it isn't and it can't. Whether you like gays or not is irrelevant.

it is, it can, and i provided arguments for both. you, on the other hand, did, basically, zilch in that department, as did others.Adams_BJ wrote:

I rarely pay attention to news, have a qualification and experience in mental health and have read in the past about homosexuality. It's a genetic predisposition, as much as being red haired or having dark pigmented skin is. Saying it's trendy, influenced by social convention or a bias due to other political influences is naive and I feel sorry for those with such a narrow world view.Shahter wrote:

homosexuality is not simply genetic. that much is clear to anybody remotely interested in the matter.Jaekus wrote:

and about trendiness and political influences - i wasn't talking about gays themselves, but about people who get their pants in a knot about a law passed in a far away land when 1. they haven't a slightest idea what homosexuality is and 2. didn't even bother to read the law in question.
if you open your mind too much your brain will fall out.
None of that is true, except for the fact that some people didn't read the law in question in its finer points. Homosexuality is predispositioned by genetics and obviously from there via social and other influences. It is also prevalent in other species, indicating a natural occurrence. It is strange how humans in authority attempt to control the nature of other humans whose actions do not affect others other than the ones they positively interact with but hold different value systems.

none of what you say is true.
edit: oh, there we go. so it's not strictly genetic after all. i made my point then.

Great way to get people to listen to your argument. I guess you want me to not agree with anything you say from now? Ok then, if it makes you happy.
