I want a new anti-virus software to replace Microsoft Security Essentials but don't know what to decide. Leaning towards AVG, but I'm open for suggestions.

I already have malware bytes to complement my AV, just need something in addition to it.
The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.

MSE is actually not too bad despite its low scores. I use it in combination with WinPatrol, SpyBot and Malwarebytes. I'll run Revo Uninstaller and CCleaner less often when I feel the need to. And when I want a second opinion, I'll launch ESET Online Scanner. And so far I'm not having scrambling to replace MSE.

Ultimately it can come down to your behavior on the internet. Avoid porn sites, pirate sites, cracks, keygens, p2p services, unfamiliar gaming sites and rogue antimalware. Don't keep autorun on flash drives. Update vulnerable software as updates become available, like Java, Reader and Flash. Even if UAC can be annoying at times, don't disable it. Keep reasonably strong passwords (I keep a management suite on a flash drive for some of mine), consider them compromised if you encounter an infection, and then change them accordingly. Back up your documents and even consider using a disk imaging tool to safeguard your data. All common sense shit.

If you want to read about it more on software vulnerabilities, try this Kaspersky Lab report.
