  • Graphics Problem: Black patches all over the place in BF2?

Since march, whenever I play BF2, I randomly get patches of black in the ground, sky and in/on buildings too.  My GFX card is a BFG 6800GT OC 267MB.

Since the glitches started, I have reinstalled windows, tried numerous different gfx card drivers, tried several different graphics settings levels, cleared my cache everytime i change my BF2 settings, checked my gpu temps, but nothing seems to have had any noticable effect on the problem.  Sometimes it starts at the very beginning after I join a game, and other times it wont start happening until I've been in-game for awhile.  It does it on all maps.  The GPU temps while in-game hover around 70C, however I can't find any correlation between temperature and this problem.

Do you think I should just RMA the graphics card?  Or, is it possible this is a system memory issue?  I did upgrade to 2GB of Corsair Value Select (pretty crappy ram) in march, so perhaps...but has anyone else found any causes or solutions for similar problems like this?  I searched the forums and found a few people with similar problems, but no remedy was found.  I have already gone through about 3 BFG 6xxx series cards (they kept failing), so it wouldn't be too shocking to find out it was just the gfx card gone bad.

I have included a few screenshots of the issue.  These are *mild* cases.  In more severe instances roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of the screen will be splotchy black slash things.

If turning the dynamic lights off doesn't help try installing installing coolbits and UNDER clocking your video card.  I used to get those when I would overclock my 6600gt too far.  Since I bought the 7800gt I haven't seen the need to OC yet.

I think your getting artifacts because of overclocking...heres a few causes of teh problem...

-Update DX9 to DX9 February
-Update Drivers
-Get a new cooler for your card
-Underclock it

If none of those work, id suggest running a stress test, and see if you get artifacts on there too...And if you do, id say its time to move on to bigger and better cards...**plays taps**

Curious, I got a very similar problem with my old graphics card (256MB Radeon 9800 Pro) if I set the graphics etc to low. The moment I put them back to medium etc everything was fine again.

Funky.

that usually points towards a too far oc (so much for guaranteed overclock). RMA it if you can. Happened to me too when i pushed my fx5200 to far (more than 40% oc). if you cant, try underclocking, selling on ebay or replacing.

You should ofcourse have the latest drivers installed

Try just 1GB of memory and see if it still appears. Chances are, it will...but you'll at least have the peace of mind knowing that it's not your RAM. Everything else has pretty much been covered in this thread.
