No, being part of the culture defines who a lot of them are though. It's not about the religion really, it's about being a member of the tribe. Think of really flamboyant gay people and how they won't shut up about being gay, or telling gay jokes. It's about equivalent.

Jewish people are alright. I almost got into a fight with a Hasidic one when I was a teen though.
They are alright, the type Dilbert was referring to are just very similar to Italian-Americans that are all about their own tribe. The sons are doted on and spoiled by the mothers, the daughters want the gaudy name-brand clothes and accessories. Their Jewishness or Italian-Americanness defines them so they have to bring it up in every fucking conversation. It's just a cultural thing.
