Hello Guys.

A friend of mine has some serious issues with Patch v1.3.

He recently got a new Graphics Card. He bought an Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600 XT because he couldn't afford a much better card. Since his old Graphics Card was an officially unsupported GeForce FX5500 I call this some progress.

So he uninstalled his BF2 Installation. Reinstalled BF2. He started it with Version 1.00, just as a Test. BF2 was running so everything was fine so far. Then he wanted to install the full version of Patch v1.3. The Installation was aborted after apporx. 20% for no specific reason.

He then tried to run the Game, but it crashed. Reason: mods/bf2/shaders/lightning.fx missing.

Anyone had similar problems??? Anyone has some advice??

I use a Sapphire ATi Radeon 9600 Atlantis with 256MB of VRAM and overclocked, I use this with a 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 processor and 512.5 MB of RAM.  I can run patch 1.3 on mine.

I have an ATI 9600 XT.  I had no problem installing the patch and running the game afterwards.  I think he might have a corrupt patch.  Has he tried downloading the full patch again?  He might want to consider dowloading from a different site like here.  From the above description, it sounds like a corrupted download to me.

Good Luck

I have a similar graphics card and had no problems.

Since your friend has the full updater did he try running it again? That's one of the prime advantages of these over the incrementals, you can run them more than once on the off chance it might solve a problem (did for me when I forgot to change the .EXE back to the default name and the incremental wouldn't work any more).

If the update completes the second time but he's still having trouble maybe try installing the Omega drivers, I've had very good experiences with mine and it really helped improve performance for certain games (plus it allows for application-specific acceleration and other tweaks).
