Well...Silence of the Lambs happens later in the overall timeline. But, it is about Lecter. I used the Red Dragon movie as the reference since the show is about the relationship between Lecter and Will Graham and those are two of the main characters in that movie.

Game of Thrones is pretty good, started watching it recently

I thought Mad Men was a stupid soap opera but its more like a very depressing and mature version of the Office. Watched up to season 4. Not everyone would like it, but I'd give it a go.
