no, because 'post-industrial' could mean ulysses and the great literature of 1914-1922. post-industrial could also technically mean anything after the advent of steam, so, say, all those flowery and compendious sprawling naturalist novels of the 19th century. balzac isn't really sci-fi. post-technology just generally means that sci-fi is formally enmeshed with technology, communication networks, cutting-edge scientific theories etc. i just mean 'technology' in its most literal, greek sense, as techne, science integrated with everyday life. so you can say that h.g. wells is 'sci-fi' as well as isaac asimov, as well as william gibson, even though they have radically different conceptions of 'sci-fi', with technological examples borne out of quite different historical paradigms. post-industrial is too specific, and industry isn't really the main thematic concern of sci-fi. post-technological means that sci-fi throughout history has run the gamut from steam-punk to space odyssey to cyberhax0r stuff. the technology is pretty much central.

Surfing Wikipedia atm. What's not to love about a book that sparks this quotable quote:

"I've not taken ten minutes on Lady Chatterley's Lover, outside of looking at its opening pages. It is most damnable! It is written by a man with a diseased mind and a soul so black that he would obscure even the darkness of hell!" - US Senator Reed Smoot, 1930

Starting on Anna Karenina. Haven't gotten around to it until now.

starting Infinite Jest. really wordy so far, even though the preface said the complete opposite.

Less wordy compared to a lot of his other stuff. That said I did get annoyed at the Wardine sections.

I bought this book for school. I really like the story but regret buying the book. I thought I got a good deal when I ordered it since the penguin classics version was twice the price. But look at it.

I can't put that on my bookshelf. It sticks out and looks retarded. Who the hell would print a book in those dimensions? I put a 20 there so you would have an idea of this things size. I should have put my notebook next to it since it is literally the same size as a 5 subject spiral notebook.

The story is A+. Highly recommend.

That's pretty much why some of those are called coffee table books. Make a vertical stack or get a big magazine rack, I guess. If your shelves are deep enough, you can get away with stacking them on top.

Got a $100 gift card from Amazon for my textbooks. Better than the school store so I ain't even mad. Picked up so more class books and two others just for fun. I finally bought Orientalism. Having heard about it in like 10 lectures and so on I figured I should read it. Also picked up  Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent. I wanted to read that since it was the book Hugo Chavez gave to Obama at some summit they were both at.

Bigger than it looks, but the selection covers the Pierce County Library System, with books reservable from any branch.

The libraries in my hometown Graz are very unspectacular, random buildings spread around town, so here are some pictures of Austria's National Library in Vienna.
It's housed in the old Imperial Palace, so the building itself gets as nice as it can, architectural.

Bought a copy of The Great Gatsby, very glad to see its not many pages and the text is quite widely spaced.
If you can't say something in 200 pages shut the fuck up is my view on 'literature'.

I find that word count is a better measure of the length of a book.
