i don't see why you'd read a long fantasy book series that has a well-made tv adaptation. people read identikit fantasy for 2-3 reasons: plot/intrigue, characters, immersion. you can get all that from a tv series without spending 10x as much effort. especially considering the author is going to die before he finishes writing the books.

As for the books themselves, I started reading them about ten years ago, long before an HBO series was planned, and I enjoyed them immensely. They're on the right side of well written, and you damn well know that's true because they wouldn't have bothered turning it into a television series if it sucked. It wouldn't have sold as many books as it did otherwise.

Just because it has a good T.V. show doesn't make it an amazing book. Fight club was a great movie. The book sucked dick.

The first series was amazing, the second series not so much, I havent seen the third.
the book is a lot better than the show. The show is above average I guess.
I remember when Poseidon said that stupid scene the dragon girl went through when she was caught by the wizards was balls tripping and mind blowing in the book and that he can't wait to see everyones reaction.

Sure, there are tons of books out there speckled with literary acclaim, but you're not going to melt your brain by reading a fantasy novel.

She basically sees the aftermath of the Red Wedding when she is in the House of the Undying. It would've been a giant spoiler for show watchers. In the books its "foreshadowing" cause you're not told too many specifics.
