However, any attempt to connect the brothers to Chechnya is in vain, Kadyrov continued. The boys were raised in the United States, and therefore their beliefs were formed there and not in Chechnya, he said.

"It is necessary to seek the roots of evil in America," Kadyrov wrote, according to a translation from Foreign Policy.
First thing out of his mouth is "we didn't do it, you did".  What an amateur.  Express your condolensces and move the fuck on.

This one will be interesting, it looks as if its only intended for there to be an exception when time is really pressing - ie seconds.

If they interrogate him for months with no rights then the lawyers will have fun with it forever.

I really hope that isn't news to you. Seems like you can learn more about geography in a week of reading about it alone than you can in an entire year of American high school geography.

My dismal school for a class only went into nations and capitals, then never quizzed the students on them in the future to see if they retained anything. The bulk of the class instead went into tolerance and multiculturalism conditioning. Sadly, I learned more about world history and geography in local history than I did in their dedicated classes.

tl;dr/c.s.b. aside, there was very little focus on retention in American public schools in the 80's/90's, and I doubt much has changed since then. They continue to churn out people who can barely tell time and count their own fingers, let alone tell you "in which part of Africa does Chechnya lay" after being given sixty seconds to think.

the funniest thing is, is that the 'name a place on the map' and 'where is this country?' is like the absolute pre-school geography material. the study and discipline of 'geography' qua geography-as-a-school-subject has nothing to do with being able to find sri lanka on a map. that's like knowing your alphabet before you go and study literature.

Sad but true. Yes, we did cover basic stuff like nations and capitals years prior, but another problem with American schools is because there is little-to-no focus on retention, they have to cover the same material over and over again. It bores good students to tears and reinforces bad study behavior in poor students.

Would you believe that we covered nouns in 11th grade English?

sounds a lot like the asian method. learning by rote / list memorization to pass exams and look 'good'... on paper. our current education minister is trying to revamp everything, against all good advice and widespread protest, towards a system like that as well. it's very victorian.

I like finlands education system, so laid back yet they produce good results.

We were never taught geography really. A little but by the time I was in school No Child Left Behind came into effect and we had to devote as much time as we could to passing those test.

Those test don't mean shit. The first time they were done in the 60s the U.S. came at the bottom. We then went on to win the cold war and become the technology center of the world. China's scores don't mean shit either since they don't test the half of the population that are still peasant farmers

BBC really needs to hire reporters with a bigger vocabulary. Could've made a drinking game out of how many times two of them said 'dramatic'.

Of course it isn't, but political geography is the overwhelming focus of an underdeveloped program in American schools.

I know. I honestly can't remember ever being taught where countries are and their capitals at school. Geography was more about the water cycle, ecological sustainability, demographics, topography, ecosystems, weather systems etc.

Baby steps. It is embarassing when people can confuse Chechnya with the Czech Republic and don't even have a very basic knowledge of a map.

so how do americans feel about this kid receiving the best treatment money can buy at an american hospital? you can bet they're doing all they can to save his life, because of his valuable he will be for information/under interrogation. i thought it was a cardinal sin in america to even pay a cent of your tax money towards your neighbour's health insurance... let alone this. some conservatives must be pissed.
