Until mass production techniques were developed the local blacksmith could repair or manufacture your firearm, He still could but its not profitable. I have made firearms my self.

On that note. In NYC a land lord was showing empty industrial space in NYC to a potential tenet and amid the debris left over on the Floor he was showing were about 400 MAC 10s in various states of assembly.
It seems some drug lord rented the place, set up shop and hired metal workers to crank out a couple thousand MAC 10 9mm pistols for his people. This way they would have cold untraceable automatic weapons at disposable rates. They made so many they didn't even care or bother to take the ones that were only 95 percent finished. They had so much cash they even left thousands of dollars in tooling behind.
So if you think banning guns makes you safe or hinders the bad guys you must look into it further,
