i like it when jay gets self-righteous and makes himself look stupid.
yes jay, there is no such thing as african american culture. "there is no black, only american". the 20th century hasn't been the century of race struggle and battles for social equality in america, has it? there are no race cultures in america. you are only an
american. that's why obama being elected was such a big deal right? just another american being elected. various forms of art, expression, music, fashion etc. haven't developed around certain races, have they? i mean, it's not like black people have their own tv channels or comedy industries in america. no, not at all. no cultural output specifically marketed or sold to a mainly black demographic. bill cosby is just american. his sitcoms were just american. don't be racist! race doesn't form part of identity at all in america - you are all just americans. just ask malcolm x.
and, again, nowhere did i say the music defines or essentializes black people. not every white american should like country music. what i'm saying is that dissing a music that has PURPOSEFULLY been tailored to REPRESENT race struggle - i.e. openly politicized music, with an important historical role and cultural significance - becomes ironic. it was music that was used as a positive force for black people. roc disses it, saying it is gay. never have i said he HAS TO LIKE IT BECAUSE HE'S BLACK. i just said it's ironic. nowhere am i saying that every chinese person has railroad building in his genes. BUT, if a chinese person said that workers who build railways are "stupid" or "gay" or something to that effect, it would also be IRONIC, on the historical and social plane.
are you people really so dense you can't get this concept of irony? lol it's like arguing with a bunch of grown babies.
