Dilbert, you can also look at the Toyota version. They are the exact same car, just with different badges. Perhaps you can get a better deal on one at the dealership?

also i love hearing german guys like him talk about cars
I can think of two, at least:

1. It doesn't have a manual gearbox. A stick is the hallmark of the GT3.

2. It's buit on the fattest, largest platform the 911 has yet seen. Anathema to the GT3 again.

yeah normally i would always want a manual gearbox for a car like that and you would think they would offer it as an option, but play the video for a few minutes from about 1:10, the new pdk really sounds amazing

and yeah it's bigger than previous versions but like i said i'm not usually into porsches so i don't really care if they're changing things up a bit

why would you ever consider buying a car with an automatic transmission? are you an american?

it's not an automatic transmission out of a ford, it's like a race gearbox, it shifts much faster than anything else, so the acceleration is a LOT quicker

and you can still disengage the clutch and have fun so why not

i wouldn't want it in other cars but i think it would be fun to drive around in this and i don't think it takes much away from the car

The double-clutch transmission that the VW Group developed is faster than any manual transmission, hands down. When the 997 was introduced, only the Tiptronic and the manual transmission were available at launch and I recall an interview with a Porsche engineer in Motor Trend (maybe Car and Driver?) that said the Tiptronic was already faster than the manual transmission with little power loss and the double-clutch system was going to be even better.

I would also always buy a car with an automatic transmission unless I was specifically buying a sports car. If I'm just using the car as a mode of transportation, I don't want to row through the gears in traffic, especially considering I live in a city. It's pointless and puts unnecessary wear on the mechanics and the driver.

I don't know...I drive in pretty heavy traffic in what has been called the most gridlocked city in North America, but I wouldn't give up my manny tranny for the world. It's worth it even just for the three seconds I spend merging on the ramps.

Then again, I have an E30, which is known as the ultimate smiling machine; that may have something to do with it

Haha, yea but if you drive a car with a stiff clutch, it's almost cheaper (and safer) to go to the gym.

That's actually cheaper than I would have expected. Maybe because it's a bmw and not some outlandish Lambo or something overpriced.
