you know what else contributed to its tragedy, and sense of invulnerability? jingosim. an unwavering nationalistic pride in the progress of western nations. the titanic marks a major historical moment where the consciousness of western second-wave industrialism receives a rude awakening. what's "ironic", as you put it, is that you are automatically assuming it is going to be junk because it is built in a "chinese shipyard". part of its original accolade of being "unsinkable" was because it was built in a british shipyard, with all the decorations (and it mostly was just that - decoration and adornment) of high western taste, whimsy, and fashion.
Titanic was not a good movie in and of itself but was very emotionally manipulative
