Gangster Squad - 8/10

This is now one of my new favorite movies. I saw it in German last night (girlfriend's best friend doesn't understand English very well), so I can't comment too much on the acting but I really enjoyed it. The story was great, the pace was well done. I suppose the only reason I'm docking it a few is because it was somewhat predictable in the way it would play out, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it.
Ryan Gosling is such a shit actor once he opens his mouth. I think that's the only reason why he was so good in Drive, although it wasn't exactly his acting that made that movie as good as it is. The guy's intonation and emotional range are just piss poor.
I'm fairly certain that the German voice-over made it better in that regard.

That's entirely possible. There are certainly films I've seen (I can't think of any at the moment) where the German dub was vastly superior to the original and vice versa.

Normally I find any kind of dubbing, especially German, to be horrendous and imo it defiles the movie. So if I say that the German dub of Ryan Gosling might be better, you know how shit he really is.

What, they are. Terminator's always been full of plotholes and paradox. Were you expecting something deep out of the newer ones?

Having high hopes for Die Hard 4 is just as bad as having high hopes for 5.

I disagree, I enjoyed it a great deal - and this one I saw in English.

I heard a rumor that they are using this one as a set up for a fifth movie in which Bourne returns that is based on another Bourne book written aber Ludlum's death.

When the Arnold terminator makes an appearance, instead of ripping the heart out of the enemy, he throws them across the room....

Elijah Wood could play Nixon.

Skyfall - i dunno/10

Can you even rate a Bond film anymore? OK the bad guy was at least a Bond villain. Disfigured lunatic mastermind and monologues. So...6-errrr-7? Ish? I guess I miss the corniness from some of the old movies, but nothing's stopping me from popping them in the DVD player again.

Casino Royale wasn't good at anything.

Bourne Legacy - 6
Doesn't really add anything to the trilogy, and the pills were a bit over the top, but was decent enough as an action movie.

Wreck it Ralph

I liked it up until the sugar race level. After Ralph ended up there most of the movie devolved into Chocolate/Sugar word jokes.

They seemed to throw away the plot of evil insect infection until the last act, it kinda lost me. Entertaining still, but the nostalgia and gaming jokes from the first quarter were a fun concept that just got ditched for a standard movie.

Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap

8/10

I was lost on the 70's/80's groups that I didn't listen to much so the first half of the movie was semi-boring (to me). The last half was more interesting.
I liked the setup/interview style with each person describing their style, their take on hip-hip, and ultimately a freestyle of their own.

Hey, it wasn't garbage. Good effort went into it. It felt more Bond-ish than the last two, but not as Bond as, say, Moonraker or Live & Let Die.

They brought an old bond toy back, somewhat a plus.

Seemed more like a fairly average docudrama with the occasional flash of reasonable acting.
Maybe it was just too subtle, I suppose it did cover the total futility of all the torture and it was interesting how slow and methodical the actual assault on the compound was compared with how its normall portrayed by Hollywood.
