The Detroit Tigers slugger won the American League's MVP on Thursday, beating rookie phenom Mike Trout by a much wider margin than most anticipated.

Cabrera, the first Triple Crown winner in 45 years, won the AL MVP by receiving 22-of-28 first-place votes and 362 points from the Baseball Writers' Association of America. He easily beat Trout, who had six firsts and 281 points.

Here you go Ken.
The Baltimore Orioles are looking to hire a Baseball Analytics intern to work in our Baseball Operations Department. This individual will report to the Assistant Director of Scouting & Player Development and the Coordinator of Baseball Analytics.

The intern will primarily focus on compiling, maintaining and analyzing data to assist the department in its development of various statistical models for use in player evaluation, both in the amateur, pro, and international arenas, in addition to performing other baseball-related research projects.

Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse team of sports professionals and possess exceptional organizational and computer skills. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and proficiency in statistical analysis software packages (such as R, SPSS, or Stats) are required. Candidates with a degree (undergrad or graduate) or extensive background in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Econometrics, or Economics are preferred. A familiarity with current baseball research and analytics, especially the Pitch F/X system, is also preferred.

This one-year internship runs from January through the end of November, though the end date is flexible, and requires relocation to Baltimore, MD.  Candidates must also be prepared to work long hours/weekends. Consideration will also be given to exceptional candidates who are only available for the summer. A monthly stipend is provided. If you are passionate about baseball, possess the necessary skills to succeed, and are driven to work in Major League Baseball, we would like to hear from you. Please forward your resume and cover letter to [email protected].

Why not? Aside from the complete lack of pitching...

5 years and 125 mil. He's good but damn he wants a lot of money and imo is on his downward slide.
We wanted him too and I know a lot of fans are pissed we didn't pay for him but I'm pretty happy.

let tori go because "we have too many outfielders.  Let Haren, Santana and Grienke go.  We were deep in outfielders and short on pitching.  The solution is to sign another outfielder for the same cost as keeping Tori and Haren.  Is Hamilton worth more than Haren and Tori?  I don't think so.  Plus I'm not sold on Hamilton as being consistent for the next 5 years. Plus I have a good chance of seeing him out at a bar in Newport after a bad week of baseball

I'm kind of sad right now. Dickey was far and away my favorite Met and I'll be sad to see him go, but at least it's too a contender that I have no problem cheering for. The package we're getting back seems pretty awesome, hope it works out.

That said, the New York press went out of their way to do a hatchet job on the man's character yesterday. Mets fans are pretty certain that the stories originated from Jeff Wilpon as it's pretty much his MO to throw people under the bus whenever he has the opportunity. In this case, it was his fuckhead way of making a trade of a popular player more palatable by tarnishing his halo. Glad that most intelligent people saw through that. The hatchet job was a last straw of sorts for me and I'll be caring about the Mets a lot less going forward until/if they are sold to new ownership. I refuse to give any of my money to the Wilpons.

lets not forget he is an old man who throws knuckleballs.  Chance of him being good for more than one season are very slim.  I get the attachment to him, after all, he won a Cy Young as a member of your team....but it's a good idea to trade him while his value is high.

He's been a top ten pitcher over the past three years. He's not a one year wonder.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.ph … reat-year/

According to that article, he's essentially been David Price. The numbers back him up.

Anyway, yeah, he's 38 years old, but knuckleballers have a history of throwing very effectively well into their mid-40s. It's not like he'll become Jamie Moyer next season

sorry, one GREAT year.  And the only knuckleballer I can recall in my lifetime is Tim Wakefield (no I'm not going to count Charlie Hough).  And we can argue about how effective Wakefield has been in throughout his career.  I think the trade is a good move.  Dragging his name through the mud (as has been the case with free agents out of Boston/NY lately) is bush league though.

Yeah, but Tim Wakefield sucked His knuckleball averaged what? 60 mph? Dickey throws two different knuckleballs, one at 85 mph and the other in the 70s. I realize that I'm coming off as a homer because he didn't really have national attention before this season, but he's been our best pitcher for the past three seasons and it hasn't been close. I think the odds of him holding up over the next three seasons are pretty damn good, and I hope he does well for Toronto.

they didn't get what you would consider a good trade for a Cy Young winner.

i would have seen what a national league team would've offered. like the astros or someone. hell, the rockies prolly would have given up John Elway . . .

Yanks are old, Rays have no hitting, Red Sox are garbage, Orioles are meh. Blue Jays have the best lineup in the division and he doesn't have to pitch to them

I really hope the Yankees don't find a way to weasel out of the ARod deal. That deal was stupid five years ago when they offered it, and they should pay the consequences for that stupidity.

Bleh on high priced players. I'd rather have a team with a higher average than one or two stars.
