So why have you said pretty much the same thing multiple times in the "2nd amendment discussion thread" if you don't want to discuss it, why click on the link .
Because after years of failed attempts on this forum, some silly little piece of my heart still believes that I can change peoples minds with well thought out, rational arguments.
Where are they then?

Now, as for guns themselves, well, it's not just the 2nd Amendment that props up private gun ownership, it's over 200 years of case law as well as multiple instances of the Supreme Court upholding and strengthening gun rights.
And that same Supreme Court and 200 years of case law explicitly allow for guns to be regulated.  Actually the landmark law for regulation I think was sometime around 1914 but I can't remember off the top of my head.  So yeah, now that we've cleared the air that the 2nd amendment allows guns and case law allows for regulation, we can get back to the debate...

are cigarettes legal? why has their use declined over the years?

guns are legal but we have this culture that worships them, and i hope to live to see the day that the culture changes, and laws don't have to.

There's nothing wrong with owning a gun for fun and/or self-defense. The only culture change necessary is crime. You get rid of criminals and nobody will ever need a gun except the military.

They weren't struggling against tyranny and government, they were having a social gathering full of chanting and drum circles and weed. That's not a revolution, it's a Thursday in Union Square.

Four people died at Kent State. A tragedy, yes, but politicized beyond belief. Those people were made out to be martyrs and in the end, those martyrs played a huge role in ending the Vietnam War. Innocent people get shot by cops all the time in drug raids and no one says boo. No one holds those people up as martyrs in a fight to roll back the ever encroaching police state. It's just a Tuesday. So, sorry if I'm not over-mournful about people that died nearly fifteen years before I was born.

Besides, I was talking about the Occupy Wall Street shitheads.

Samuel Colt created 'The Great Equalizer'. Winchester built a castle with the money he made making firearms. Smith and Wesson are household names, and Bushmaster used to mean a poisonous snake.

Democrats and Republicans in this country love their guns. Even myopic swiss emigres love guns. Why is there even a debate about the size of magazines or the uproar over semi-automatic weapons? The politicians are stalling until Sandy Hook fades from memory, and hope they aren't primaried next election cycle.

the only thing you know about culture is it's the active ingredient in yogurt, and the only thing you care about is wrapping your hands around an automatic weapon. i forsee the day when you will, even if you don't make it into the armed services. On that day you'll devolve from Smeagol into gollum, because you'll have your 'preciousssssssssssssss'

When I think of the left and revolutionaries in America I think of dirty hippies looking to get high like it's a Grateful Dead concert and the professional anarchists who like to throw rocks and play the victim when someone lays a finger on them. They're not exactly a group of people that strikes fear in the heart of our government, especially since it's the same people who are so anti-gun/anti-violence/anti-aggression/anti-everything really. They're pussies. You don't see them being added to FBI watch lists like you do right wing former military personell.

The left actually got lucky that Kent State happened or no one would even remember their imbicility.

I'm not saying the people that died got lucky, I'm saying the anti-war left of that era got lucky. They received a gift wrapped rallying point courtesy of the stupidity of those National Guard troops. It was handed to them on a silver platter. It was their "Remember the Alamo!". It was the event that launched a hundred political careers, from Kerry to the Clintons.

That doesn't even make any sense. You said there's nothing wrong with owning a gun for fun, but then say that if you get rid of criminals only the military will need guns?

absolutely, shifty. there's totally nothing wrong with that, but the fucking amendment says that the guns and "well regulated militia" whatever the hell that might mean is "necessary to maintain teh free state". that may have been semi-sensible 200 of years ago, but to anybody with half a brain it's obvious that it's not so anymore - have not been so, in fact, for, like, a hundred of years. the supposed "tyranny" that you mean to fight with your mini-14 would have so much stuff at their disposal that this idiotic notion you and some other people seem to share about yourself being able to actually do something against your dreaded government if it went all tyranny on you is simply laughable.

so, ffs, get over it already and admit that you want to have guns for the sake of having guns. you like them, they are kewl toys that go "bang!" and make you feel as if you had a larger dick. that would be at least understandable - still laughable, but understandable.

The key word here, UN13, is need. I said if we got rid of criminals the only people that would NEED guns are the military. We're not talking about leisure here.

There are a lot of opinions flying around as to why that is but I won't address that right now. You obviously didn't understand that what I was saying was in response to what Burnzz said. Try reading it again. I wasn't saying we could get rid of crime, I was saying that IF we could then weapons wouldn't be a necessity.
