Well fuck, that doesn't inspire a lot of confidence about me getting one like I want to, lol.  A G500 that is

Well, it worked for 3 years perfectly with a lot of computer time in that time so in that time it did exceptionally for its life time.

But its a bit small for my hand or I'd get another.

Yeah, that's about how long my 1st gen G5 lasted, if that, before it started getting weird jumpy issues and moments where it wouldn't do anything at all unless the cord was sitting just so

I didn't know G500s had even been out for 3 years, that's why I was surprised that one had fucked up already

My G5 worked perfectly for 5 years, it's still trooping on, just cuts out every now and then. I've found the G500 to be pretty much the perfect replacement. Takes a bit of getting used to as it isn't identical, but it is a very easy transition.

to upgrade my home VMWare server. The usbdrive thing is really awesome -- just jacks into an internal USB header. The drives, now in raid 1, on a 6gb raid card, are now the fastest disk setup I have in any machine I own. And the machine runs on 55w of power. Awesome.

the way things are going. when i first saw thumbdrives, i wondered how long it would take to make a harddrive solid state.

my next door neighbor works at the micron/intel joint venture south of here, he said they are a year and a half ahead of retail, and that i wouldn't believe what they were working on.

when i asked him "what was that?" he said he couldn't tell me . . .:\

Got an i7 920 running with 6GB of tri-channel DDR3, and I'm almost maxing it out when playing ARMA 2, running chrome, and windows, nudging around 5.3GB used.

Now, I want to upgrade, but tri-channel DDR3 is fucking expensive, a 12GB kit is like
for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.

3x2GB of 1600MHz Tri-channel DDR3 is around $33 on Canadian newegg...

I don't know if you can on 518s, but I'd recommend doing the soundstage mod. Break them in for a couple of weeks first though. I did with my 555s and it was so worth it.

I will look into that, but I think I am more than satisfied with these.  It might sound weird, but I think these headphones have changed my life a little bit.

heaven forbid you try anything better than the 5-series (which is a lot of things)

it always baffles me why those 555's and so on are the 'default' gaming headset. was there once a really good offer going on them or something? i see no reason to buy them other than the price.

soundstage mod... ya, or just buy a decent pair of cans in the first place. this is what you call a mod-able pair of cans:

just never understood why gamers always fap over the 555's. it's like £40 of audio drivers inside a fancy shell.

Possibly because of the budget he posted, wanted an over-ear design and the fact the is running them straight off his laptop?

The headphones are blurry and out of focus, but at least we can see the turntable. Proper disk jockey.

actually the turntable is out of focus, as you can see by the blurry dots/ridges around the platter itself. the soft second light source from the turntable target light messes up the auto-focus. it was a quick snap, not something for an online portfolio.

nice one though, you really got me. i guess those headphones aint shit after all, cause i didn't properly focus a mobile phone snap!!!!

I would have to put some electric tape over that keyboard's glowing logo. Holy crap.

yeah, such a bling bling gaming keyboard! LED's and distraction everywhere

https://www.technologyihub.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Zowie-Gear-Celeritas-1.jpg

i can press 2 buttons and turn it off. but i have a mechanical keyboard, therefore i touch-type, therefore i never look at it, anyway.

I'm using a Kensington PK1100U, and the only flashy lights it has are activated with scroll lock, num lock and caps lock. Good enough for me. I touch-type as well, but that logo is huge, glowing and would wreak havoc with my peripheral vision. Even when my keyboard is on my lap, I can still make out the green num lock light. But if you can turn it off, I withdraw my statement about electric tape.

I wish more appliances had LED-disable functions. If I don't shut everything down, my room looks like a fucking nebula of electronic bullshit at night. And the blue ones are really piercing.

There is no reason my electric toothbrush should have to light up an entire wall.

peripheral vision? are you an owl or something? there is no way a glowing light on your keyboard gets into your peripheral vision when you are looking at a monitor that is correctly/ergonomically set up, at level eye-line with you. my keyboard sits basically a 90 degree angle from my folded elbows when i sit upright - as it should be. i think i'd have to see the world in fisheye vision to even see my keyboard in the 'periphery'. and ya, you can turn it off. you say the only lights your keyboard has are num/cap/scr.... well this is like a 1x2 inch logo, just above them. it's hardly a bling keyboard.

Owl vision? Not as such, I don't think.

Sitting cross-legged on a couch 4'-5' away from a 26" monitor centered about 2" below the center of my vision in a dimly-lit room. Mouse pad on a hardcover book on the cushion to my left or the arm of the couch. Whether the keyboard's splayed across my legs or on what's left of the couch cushion in front of me, I can still make out the soft green light on it. Fixes:

* Mentally tune it out while gaming. The light from the games easily overwhelms the dim green glow.
* Turn on a lamp or the overhead light to drown it out.
* Disable num lock.

Sitting on an office chair closer to the computer. Flight stick in lap, keyboard on tray, monitored centered to vision. Proper posture. I can still make the darn thing out.

Sitting on my bed with the laptop. Every little bloody light on it is piercing.

I am so glad I can turn off the Logitech G600's LED backlighting on the function pad. Even faced away from me, on the left side and being used as a lefty-mouse, it still lights up that side of the room.
