Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. 8.5/10.  Recommend

Loved it. Genuinely cared about Jim Carry's character though I didn't make the same attachment with Kate Winslet. I still think she did a bang up job though. I can see why a lot of people put the movie so high up on the list of movies from the first decade of the 2000's.

Russian Ark ???/10  Recommend++++

I don't know how to rate this. As far as plot goes there is none. It is just a single character guiding you through Russian history from Peter the Great to Stalin. The whole movie is done in one continuous shot and was done in one take. Absolutely beautiful visuals. I can't think of anything to compare it to. It is not for everyone and may come off a little pretentious at first but as the movie goes on you will appreciate it. Warning though it is Russian and you will have to read subtitles.

Cop Out - 7/10

Basically your standard cop buddy movie in the likes of Lethal Weapon or Beverly Hills Cop, complete with black & white cop partners, the angry police chief and the smug rival cop team.

But Kevin Smith really did a great job at making each single scene in the movie much more funny and enjoyable than all the cliched other movies.
He also developed almost every character, including bad guys and grunts, which normally are just for getting shot by the heroes.

Lolwut?

Just came from watching it in that 3D HFR DDR THX - vision.

The picture was awsome. But then again the fight scenes were a bit messy since it was so damn sharp. Loved the movie altho some parts were a wee altered and some added.

Anyone know when the second part is coming out?

It was a little slow at parts. But since I didn't feel like I was being hurried through a tour of middle earth, I didn't care.

I think it'll help bridge the gap between Hobbit and SUDDENLY SAURON.

Power was off at my place for building maintenance so I went to go see Wreck-it Ralph. I'm not adverse to going to the movies alone but it did feel a little odd to be just among kids and their parents. Had a good chat with of the dads about Jurassic Park though so it was all good.

Anyway, really liked the movie. Just enough retro video game cameos and jokes to make me feel catered to but not so much that it just became a  big reference-fest. Also it managed to avoid the pitfall of "Like Toy Story but..."

Very well cast and very sweet. If the power goes off in your building and you need to kill a few hours it's definitely worth it. I would say that anyway but I'm pretty sure it opened in NZ about two months after everywhere else so it's probably on DVD by now.

Got a free drink upsize. Asked for a small but apparently they're trying to get rid of all the large-size Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 promotion cups. Whatever, free drink, free plastic cup.

Gangster Squad 9/10

features an assburgers wisconsite that haz an inferiority complex and posts to a seven year old dead gaming forum. set in LA, the forum moderator cleans up town, gets the girl, and all is right with the world. until a douchebag swiss=born teenager wannabe marine recruit steals the girl from the moderator, and all hell breaks loose.

best seen with a pocket full of skittles, a diet coke (for really vocal belches) two twizzlers, an M & M bar, an expired bus pass (because those old farts looking at the ticket can't see shit - get you in the movie and the ride home) a flask full of dark bacardi, and some windex in a plastic bottle, because you window lickers seem to prefer a clean window.

I thought the movie struck a good balance. It was less of a cameo parade than a the occasional "gee wiz, I remember that guy," and didn't really butt into the story at all.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
I was almost laughing when Saruman started to talk in Rivendell. "What? Nooo, nuthin like that happening. No evils going on. Nope. Nooo Sir. Still peace n' happiness... *dum-de-dum* "

I like how Galadriel gave precisely zero fucks about what Saruman had to say and spoke over him to Gandalf with telepathy.

Was expecting to love it (have been to the west end show 6-7 times) but it was merely 'good'.
