The best thing about BF2, (or one of them at least,) is at the end of a game when you earn a medal and you know you've EARNED a medal. No matter if you believe in the whole gaudiness of BF2 awards or not, (there are a few around,) it's a great feeling. I mean a medal where you showed real skill in leading/being part of your team in the aims of scoring a sweet victory, or maybe a narrow loss. Even a terrible disgusting loss...
Bronze Silver or Gold, share you're amazing round stories!

I like stories.

Yeah, once I had a 3 guy-locked-squad with my friends and we absolutely owned the swedes just driving around at NJ2046 (Chinese 4-seat jeep) on Daqing Oilfields.
I really felt proud dodging all those tank shots at us and safely defending a flag/attacking them.
I was Anti-Tank, they were Medic and Support. A great combination!

I got Gold, and they Bronze and Silver stars. We were the best squad of the both teams although there were many 6-member squads

And those many times when I've single handedly ALMOST lead my inexperienced (I don't say 'noob') team to win.
Still got Gold Stars out of them.

I get your drift. I try not to play a round concentrating on the medal's, but sometimes it happens. Today I got the Officer Squad ribbon thingy without even trying for it, and it was a nice surprise.

EDIT: To embelish a bit, I was on the "Hoover Dam" map (I cant remember the names of all these crazy maps on this game) and I grabbed a transport helicopter while fleeing from the enemy base behind the dam. Of course this attracted some attention, particularly from the hostile jets and the monkies on the ground watching me.

By the time I passed over the dam, the skin of my bird was allready down by 75% so I bailed out over the enemy 'dumpster base' nestled behind the hills, down in the valley only to land in the middle of it. I jumped in an AA vehicle long enough to get to the crispy new tank waiting near the building. By then the defender/s where onto me and I got to play hide and seek with the anti-tank guys behind the dumpsters. I managed to take them out and capture the base, and then whalla, I got my ribbon. I nearly pooped my pants. It all happened in the course of a minute or two and seemed so efortless compared to the stuff I've gone through on most maps. My drill instructor would be proud of me.

My best medal was today when I had a really hard time finding a game in which I was in the winning side. The first one I tried my team was more interested in doing barrel rolls in Blackhawks then winning. After getting tired of loosing I joined a wetlands map. We lost.
The map changed to Shaqui Peninsular and I decided that MEC was going to win no matter what. Our team had no commander, people refused to be in squads while the other team was brilliantly commanded with able players in and out of squads. I immediatly rushed and captured as many points as I could. The middle one and half of the far one before I was attacked with a helicopter and a grenade in turn. The guy who killed me was obviously the star of the other team. He was great. Fish-something... can't remember his name...
Anyway, After fighting a pretty much loosing battle, I typed tactics to other people and we started to get a real foothold. I myself got six solo flag captures in the round and many flag assists and some defends, but I wasn't getting many kills. That soon changed as man after man rushed us and we rushed them. I was getting heaps of kills and it was great.
The guy Fish was even better though and he was carving through our guys. They also had a strategicly placed Sniper that made standing still for more then two seconds hazardous. We battled them back to one point many times but it was an oscillating conflict. If we were beaten back I'm proud to say that it was always I who broke through to secure another foothold. In the last stages of the game it was 20 tickets to 40, and the enemy managed to push us back. Our time just run out unfortunatly, but if there were more tickets it would have continued to be a great battle.
I earned the Silver Star with the Fish guy earning Gold, (deservidly so,) with 90 points while I had 76 I think. I did all this without using anything more powerful then transport once.
We went from a side of headless chickens that was loosing completely, often without inflicting a single casualty to a side that was a noble and tough adversary. It's safe to say that all we needed was one guy to go completely hard-out to give the other troops hope, and I'm proud to say that I was that guy.
Cliche as it may be it was freakin' awesome.

As I said, I love stories, so feel free to type some cool ones.

Congrats on the silver - I think the closest I've been is in the top 10. It takes a lot of work and maybe some luck along the way.

Funny, couple days ago I was on the losing team no matter where I went. Yesterday was just the opposite, for the most part. Occasionally I get into the dysfunctional rooms you are referring to, and I seize the moment to try out commanding or something new. But if they are totally off the wall I seek out some nice server somewhere else.

I'm waiting for the day I can find a server full of total green troops so I can mop up. (Im still somewhat wet behind the ears too, however). Just once I'd like to go in and rack up some major points/kills. In BF42 and SOCOM II it used to be commonplace to find those golden apples, but not for me lately. Im noticing that in this game the UAV/scans are keeping people moving like rabbits. Im sure the day will come, and by then maybe I'll learn some new tactics that will help me rack'em up.

EDIT: Just looking at ur stats. If I double my hours Im about the same as you, but if I double everything else, Im no where near you! You are raking up the kills...and stuff. Nice ratio...Hmm, your stat board gives you an EA ranking. Mine doesnt on any of those. Do you know how that works? Also did you party on the 18th and the 26th? Looks like a sharp decline there - lol.

Im slowly catching on to the kill-tactics.

It seems to me its either Tank/Jet whore or run n' gun while capping flags with an AR.

Seems to be working for me.

Ohhh yes, that's really ... (sorry, no words for my feelings).
I made tree really nice rounds on Sharqi with about 200 points, two badges (basic pistol was hard work as sniper) and some stars, some other things were less remarkable. But the server didn't submit (my opinion) the stats to EA and I stopped playing for a week (watch my graphs).
