Well, it sounds nice, but you might as well have a law about not wearing plaid socks to bed. The best you're going to be able to do is license gun safes and attach that to the background check when someone purchases firearms...and just hope people are smart enough to use them.

Things like drunk driving can at least be caught by patrols.

I think locking up your guns in your home is more a common sense thing, unquestionably so if there are children around. It can't be enforced though, only after the fact.

i don't lock up my guns. to be fair, they're rugers, so i will smack a bitch that breaks into my house with one like a baseball bat, as some world renowned gun owner has told me i can't shoot a ruger.

Melissa Nelson lost her job for being super-hot and, according to the Iowa Supreme Court, her employer was within his rights to fire her for being "irresistible." Nelson, a dental hygienist, had worked for Dr. James Knight for ten years before Knight started commenting on her clothing (saying "If she saw his pants bulging," she'd know it was too tight) and sending her texts.  When Knight's wife discovered the texts (including the one that asked about Nelson's orgasms), the couple consulted their pastor who advised them to fire Nelson "in order to protect their marriage." Nelson sued for discrimination; the court ruled that although her firing might not have been fair, it was legal.

He's right. You'll need at least five hands to do so.

India gang-rape victim dies in hospital

If only these people would pay attention to Rick "make-the-best-out-of-a-bad-situation" Santorum and other Republican rape advocates, this tragedy could have been averted.

[...] Santorum explained that sexual assault victims should “accept this horribly created” pregnancy because it is “nevertheless a gift in a very broken way” [...]

how are they even related? one is dubious christian moralizing about accidental rape pregnancies. the other is a brutal physical assault (they put an iron bar up her vagina for christ sake) and left her for dead. the first is a christian proscription of abortion, the second is basically a gang-assault and torture situation. where the fuck do you dream up these crazy critiques from?

Maybe you havent had enough exposure to the right wing Christians in this country uzi but its relevant because Santorum and half the GOP have been saying throughout the election shit like "it's gods will" and "even though I am a man I wouldn't get an abortion because it's a child of god".  You know, their usual blame the victim schtick.

That's the only reason the Democrats won in November imo.  If Republicans ran on economic policy and nothing else the majority of the country would probably agree with them.  But as it happens they would also turn the country into an Iranian style theocracy.  They are too fucking dimwitted and paranoid to see this, of course.

@zeek: They're related because of the dismissive attitude Santorum had towards rape, and because this recent gal died because she "couldn't make the best out of a bad situation." Basically, what spearhead said. The loony "blame the victim first" mentality of some Republicans cost the entire party bunch of votes, supporters and lost them even more respect. I have nothing against Christians as a whole, but I don't want to see national policy dictated from the pulpit.

no, the girl didn't die because she couldn't "make the most out of a bad situation". she was brutally assaulted and died of her wounds. the christian far-right in america proselytize based on MORAL and ETHICAL decisions. VALUE judgements. cultural NORMS. yes, they go to extreme lengths and say that a pregnancy from a rape should be kept and considered a 'gift from god', or whatever. that is essentially saying that their moral mission is so devout and high-minded that the values derived from scripture should be upheld, even in circumstances that are far from ideal. but again, this represents a wider debate in american politics about abortion and more specifically about CHOICE.

a woman being brutalised by a gang of men and having her insides turned into a flesh smoothie using an iron bar has NOTHING to do with a debate on 'choice' or 'decisions' or 'responsibilities' or 'faith' or anything. she had as much choice as anyone else who is murdered. you are really clutching at straws here, and it's kinda disrespectful. the stupid little inane christian debates that your nutjob politico establishment busies itself with really do not resonate with the wider world at all.

That's why we make fun of Rick Santorum and other conservatives who dismiss rape. This man was running for president in the primaries, ffs.

He never condoned rape, you jackass. All they've ever said is that in a situation like that they wouldn't want the mother to abort. They would prefer she carry it to term and give it up for adoption.

Don't try to twist their words into what you want to hear in order to justify your own lack of religion to yourself. If you need that reassurance then you must be wracked with doubt on the topic and are overcompensating. These are the same people whose literal translation of the bible requires death for the rapist. That's hardly glorifying him in place of the victim. It is simply holding the innocent life of the child above the feelings and emotions of the mother.

All it takes to "twist their words" is a gentle tap, Jay. And then there's this:

What, relaxing and enjoying rape, or counting the blessings of God's gift of rape pregnancies?

No, being cowards that accept whatever fate they've been dealt without lifting a finger to do anything about it. Why fight the inevitable? Give in. Accept reality. Don't make waves.

Not like Jay.

He took government welfare and made a man of himself. Now he can argue that people on welfare are lazy.

I took government welfare? News to me. Even if I had, did I improve myself when I had the chance or did I take the easy route out in life? Was it the easy path to sacrifice almost five years of my life doing what I hated? Was it the easy path completing an engineering degree in three years time? AR, you're just lucky that you're not very bright or the standards for failure would be higher than that of someone who sits around on reddit all day while working a deadend job. Your life is awesome dude.
