As a loan officer I had an encounter with a mom who made no attempt to conceal. One minute the child is sitting on her lap, the next moment I look back and the left one is being whipped out from under the shirt and stuffed in the kid's mouth. It was awkward more because it was unexpected than anything else. Pretty sure western culture is one of the few that wants women to hide when nursing.
On second thought, I doubt anywhere in the Middle East allows public nursing. Though you could just hide the kid under the burka.

Ignorant people value culture over humanity. The topic of this thread is only an issue because of that ignorance. Anyone who has a problem with the public exposure of the female breast is sick in the head. Breast feeding is a non sexual act. Men need to control themselves.
Agreed. It just comes back to culture and upbringing. In some European cultures it's quite accepted to walk around naked. In English speaking countries some people get all funny and uptight about public breast feeding because of an ingrained conservative view on the human body.Superior Mind wrote:

If the government legalized public exposure of a female torso, it would cut through a lot of nonsense (other than religious protest). Nobody could say that it's indecent exposure and the women couldn't give the stinkeye to or try to pin sexual harassment bullshit on anyone who's taken aback when they flash their jubblies. I think that in general humanity has lost contact with its natural animality.
It's a mix of inherent evolutionary development in our species, as well as culture on top of that.
(The same is the case how death is handled in many cultures, being a sterile, abstracted process: Dying in a hospital, transported off by a undertaker, etc.).
Most other mammals only show developed mammary glands during rut, while female homo sapiens sport them all year round after puberty.
Same goes for the male penis, which can't be fully retracted into the abdomen/foreskin in humans. Many animals even retract the testes temporarily or completely.
Those differences are probably the reason why humans started to wear clothes and create cultural behaviors.
As for these ridiculous excesses in America; that's probably cause by a crazy mix of puritan prude with being bombarded by sexuality by media all around.
