Dictaphone advice

The other half needs a dictaphone for Uni so I'm gonna get her one for Christmas, but I have literally no idea what to look for apart from expanding slots (micro SD, 16gb etc).

Does anyone have one/use one/can recommend one for around the £50 mark?

doesnt her phone/tablet/laptop have this capability. i record all my spoken lectures on my tablet so these seem redundant

I've got a Sony ICD-UX512F and it works very well. I'm not sure about what she is doing at uni, but for me the quality recording and easy storage/transfer was good, but it was especially handy considering that I was often doing hours of interviews per day (and draining the phone constantly was annoying).

Runs the battery down a lot, and it's far easier to get something dedicated for the job. Will be much easier to grab the recordings off it as well.
I got the Olympus VN711-PC. Read a few reviews on it and people seem to rate it highly.
