How will this card do with BF2?

Im planning on getting it seeing as my friend says you iver buy the best or the spend all your money on tiny upgrade to tiny upgrade to tiny upgrade. Note: I know this isnt the best but thats all i can afford (im even selling my old 6600gt to raise cash, im bf2less and have not even tried the new patch) anyway the seller says it's as powerful as a early 7800gs. Well uh ok for me.

Im wandering with the rest of my stats (see sig) what can i get out of it? Because before my 6600gt only got me medium settings with bad fps *25 at max* 18 average

If you got a speedy processor and lots of RAM, you'll be able to run the game on high. The card won't do much for improvement if you do not have a fast processor and RAM to go with it.

I suggest posting your RAM and CPU make/model/speed so that we can get a better idea where the actual bottleneck is.

Well to stay on a budget, I would suggest the 7600gt.Its very affordable card, uses less power, and will run cooler then a 6800ultra.

Something to consider atleast for you.

....Maybe some more cpu ram when you are able to upgrade would help as well.

Yes, but he has an AGP system...

I would suggest...well, I dont know what I would suggest for an AGP system...The 7800GS isnt a very good board, but its the best nvidia board you can get for AGP...

Id suggest looking at some of teh ATI stuff, like the x1600...They make pretty good AGP boards...

I did a little research, and with price being the main issue the 6800 maybe the card that best suits him.

Eh, more than that I think, but still...

Anyway, the 6800 GT / Ultra will work fine. I have a GT OC overclocked to Ultra speeds and it works great. I can run medium/high.

A 6600gt should be fine, what matters is 1st RAM 2nd Processor speed.

My PC is far from new but I run can run everything on high, I've only got an Athlon XP 3200+ (ye oldie 32 bit thing) 2GB Corsair Dual channel DDR400 and the an x800XT PE (factory OCd to 540Mhz core - 1140Mhz on mem)

but bf2 is ram intensive, a fast cpu also increases fps by around 10...

I'll explain on why I mentioned this. I've probably read and monitored enough video card reviews to notice this during the Quake3 days.

When you have a video card that is struggling to keep up, then the bottleneck becomes the GPU. This means a faster video card will help improve its framerate performance. However, things has somewhat changed since then. GPUs have become so fast that now the bottleneck becomes the CPU, where a faster CPU will benefit more as the GPU scale a whole lot better than before. If you factor out RAM as a requirement, you'll see that a fast CPU and a video card of say GeForce 6 caliber go together very well.

As much as I'd love to run some numbers... sadly my ancient GeForce2 GTS is in-use by my Linux fileserver and I'm missing other "parts" to complete it (RAM, PSU, and CPU). The system itself would make an excellent sample system in order to test the scalability of video cards. Oh well... I'm sure all of this is documented somewhere...

As for the CPU, it is still responsible for processing physics and AI, and there is still some overhead from the audio resources.

yes that is correct... so you pretty much need a good overall system, not just one thing that is uber good and the rest sucks

Thanks for the reccomendation but I beleive that the 76' is only PCI-E

Thanks for the reccomendation but I beleive that the 76' is only PCI-E

there will be an AGP version comming out soon.
