I cannot wait to upgrade to DDR3 and have all that extra RAM, Windows 8 is predicted to sell like it never came out and memory producers are already pissed cuz they know they're not gonna have anywhere near enough demand to make prices go back up.  I think I actually run out on my current 4GB DDR2 when I play BF3, though having a GTX 260 doesn't help shit either

you should see what photoshop does to ram usage and your scratch disk. doesn't help when the raw file is 5184 x3456, and 18 mb +. my camera has better resolution than all 3 of monitors. . .

Word, at least I'm not the only one running a 260!

I'm surprised by how long it lasted in performance ability for a midrange card from 2008 but some of these newer games are almost just too much for it

It's ok though, just gave up BF3 for CSGO anyway. Eve and CSGO will last me a while. /diehard

I'm trying to get this guy I'm doing some computer work for to trade me one of his 560 Ti's from his current SLI setup when he buys a 670 to replace them, I can't tell if he's happy with the deal or if he wants me to eat shit though, lol, he's hard to read and he won't speak up.  I'm tryin to do a bunch of things to make it feel worth it for him but I think he thinks I just want to recover his data from his old computer for the card, lol.

He plays the game at 2560x1600 and can only do High with two 560 Ti's in SLI, he's not satisfied with that, lol.

I'll be getting the 8GB model - I don't need massive amounts of storage on my phone at all.

New fan comes in later today(posting at 1:30 in the morning, lol), I can't wait to see the results, maybe my BF3 frames will stay stable after.  I noticed they tend to drop a little bit the longer I play but I can't tell if it's from heat or memory over-usage.  The woes of DDR2...

Yeah you can really see a difference between ddr2 and ddr3.

Make sure you blow the dust out of your CPU heatsink as well as your graphics card when you install the new fan. Dust traps a considerable amount of heat and can cause a drop in your frame rate.

Considerable just can even cause the PC to crash (happened to me recently till I cleaned out my GPU heat sink).

Well, the new fan is in and I can't even hear it over my CPU fan.  There is kind of a new droning noise like a shitty old bathroom fan, but I re-adjusted the air guide(forgot the proper name) on the case door that goes over the CPU's fan to go as close as it can to the fan so that the airflow doesn't conflict and that made the sound much quieter.  My power supply fan still gets loud while I'm gaming but it goes up and down instead of staying loud the entire time and it's completely silent at idle again.  The framerates seem a bit more stable for long periods of time as well but it could all just be in my head.  Overall I'm very happy with it so far and I would definitely recommend it to anybody looking for a quieter fan with good airflow to replace the cheap throwaway fan their case likely came with.

I can't comment on temp changes because my old fan was basically a non-factor and I didn't bother to see what temps I was getting with it not working but right now my stock-clocked Q9550 with stock fan and Arctic Silver 5 is idling in the high 30s according to Everest.  My 500GB Western Digital Blue Edition hard drive was getting up to 53 degrees celcius with no fan, now it's at 45, my 1TB Black Edition only dropped from about 45 to 43 but I'm glad it's able to run itself so cool anyway.

Can't tell if you're being a sarcastic ass or not but in case you are, I'm talking about the cost to upgrade to more than 4GB when DDR2 isn't dirt cheap like DDR3 is

I've already dusted it out a week or two ago so I should be good I think, I'm happy with high 30s for sure when idling, I think it was much more than that without a working case fan, probably high 40s or low 50s and right after quitting BF3, I checked Everest and saw the temps sitting at 64 C.  Haven't tested that with the new fan though

Hahah nah I was being serious bud. It really is a marked difference when you compare the two. Fiancé is currently on a temporary rig with 2gb ddr2. Painfully slow.

Also, how the fuck do you guys deal with hard drive noise? Shit is LOOOUUUUDDDD

I'm not sure there's much you can do if you don't like hard drive noise other than to spend extra for an SSD or settle for 5400RPM desktop drives.  This is assuming you're talking about the clicky access noise and not vibration.  I don't have much of a problem with vibration at all, even with this cheap case, but one of my hard drives is very clicky though and I think it's actually my WD Blue edition
