All I want is a political party with conservative fiscal practices but forward thinking enough to invest in proven workable renewable energy (as has been highly successful in countries like Germany) but with socially liberal (gay marriage, decriminalise drug use). Cut the corporate welfare (mining companies don't need multi billion dollar fuel subsidies when one owner personally earned $18.7 billion last year alone) and social services should be given more funding to help the truly needy, disabled and vulnerable in society. If you choose to not work when you are capable, you shouldn't receive a hand out. Also thorium reactors would be cool. Nuclear is outdated technology and really only still is newly built because you can make weapons from them.

Our taxation system would be better if there wasn't so many loopholes for corporations, and they should tax the churches too. Then we would all pay far less income tax = more money going back into the economy as people tend to spend more when they have more. Any organisation involved in charity work (ie. certain church groups) should get a write off. And religion has no place in government whatsoever.

Most charity work was historically done by churches here. Around the turn of last century the intellectuals decided it should be secularized but they lacked the income of the tithe system so they turned it into a government function. This then morphed into welfare, section 8 etc. There were checks and balances at the local level which kept fraud miniscule. Not so much today.

i beg to differ. http://www.charities.org/ churches are the biggest 'boots on the ground', the face that an unfortunate sees when receiving charity.
business is the single biggest contributor, and non-profits like the United Way make up a sizeable percentage.

You missed the 'was historically' phrase. Yes, most charities today are supported by corporations. Their donations are tax deductible and the charities themselves are tax exempt.

United Way began as a church organization: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Way_of_America

So did most other charities.

There are a lot of things religion can be criticized for but charity isn't one of them.
